I'm getting ready to put my dash together and didn't realize the Covan dash did not come with cut-outs for the turn indicator lights or the high beam indicator.
How did everyone who got the blank dash install theirs? I'd like to dremmil out a place to put the original dash lights in their original spot, but it doesn't look like there is room between the speedo/tach and the steering.
I've got a 1970 ElCamino with sweep dash (and an LS1 under the hood:naughty: ).

I just used LEDs and wired into the factory harness (well, I used 2 connectors so that I can remove the dash easily by unhooking the connectors). I did that for all wires to the dash.

I used LEDs for the turn signals, brake light and highbeams. Just measured and marked where I wanted the holes, drilled them and pressed in with a little silicone to hold in place. I custom wired the whole dash, so it was just part of the process to wire in the LEDs.

Thanks for the responses, can you explain more on how to wire them in?
They must be a 12V auto specific part.

12V, yes. Auto specific, no. Mine were like $1.79 at Radio Shack for 5/32" mounting. A little larger than necessary, but still cool. You wire them up like anything else, power in one end and out the other.

better use a resistor on the led or it will blow also

Radio Shack has no blue leds in the 12v variety! I really don't want red for my high beam indicator, what did you guys use?

I ordered red, green and blue through Summit. Can't remember the price, but they were fairly cheap. No relay required on the ones I bought.

How much for a 70-81 Camaro dash with your discount? Just curious.

Ok, found the LED's and a blue light at the truck repair place down the road. Let me tell you, this is a big job! Took me a good solid 4 hours to just get the original dash out, this was the first time it had been removed since 1970!. All my wiring looks like it is in good shape, unfortunatly, the fan switch looks like it may be hosed. Next, the fitment of the Corvan insert was lets say, less than perfect, but, I think with some work it will look fine. There is no cut-out for the ash tray, I had to fix than, and it is not cut out correctly for the driver's side ac duct. It is easy to cut, but difficult to cut and make it look good. The original dash needed surgery to fit in the Tach and the two lowest gauges on the passenger side. Not noticable, but somewhat of a pita. I've got to wire all my gauges and dash lighting in after work this week, and then re-install it next weekend. I plan on building my own gauge harness and run it into two connectors so it can all be attached/removed easily. When I put a new stereo and cig. lighter back in, it will all need to come back out.
There is no provision for the transmission gear indicator (I have colum shift), what if anything did everyone else do? Is there a digital set-up available?

I bought LED's from this guy on ebay kbug26 (http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/kbug26/)https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/01/s-1.gif
Here is one thing I thought of after installing the blue LED for the high beams... When the driver is going down the road with the high beams on, the passenger is going to think that the driver is one of those guys from the "Blue Man Group". Those LED's are bright.
Installed them in a Covan's 68 dash with no problem.

I bought mine from DSE and they were easy to install. Like BadBowtie said, the blue one is BRIGHT!!!! Try and install it on the lower section of the panel and not in the center if possible. It doesn't matter if the steering wheel is blocking it because the people in the car next to you will know that it is on.
