255 will be fine, close to perfect on a 8"

That's pretty much the minimum for a 255 with 40-series profile. The sidewall may look a bit bulged, depending on the section width of the specific tire you're using.

Thanks guys... the 50 series are gone.. Goin 40's.

I'm going with Nitto 555's

255/40 & 285/40 on an 8 and 9.5 rim.

FWIW, I couldn't get my 255/40/17 G-force T/A KD's beads to seat on my 8" torque thrusts for the front of my '67. I had close to 100 psi in them trying to get the bead to pop without any luck. This may have been due to the tire's stiff sidewall and the fact that they were a tad bit too wide for the 8" wheel.

I decided to mount them on a set of 9.5" wheels I had instead, and they fit much better on those wheels. The 9.5" wheels in front were a better match for the 11's I have in the rear, so it worked out for the best.
