Well, I've officially been burnt!! https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I sent my OEM GTS steering wheel, with only 1800 miles (brand new) and shifter boot to American Stitches (http://www.american-stitches.com/ (http://www.american-stitches.com/)) to have them recover them with a more exotic type of leather. The website looked very legit and I even spoke with the owners on the phone before I sent them the wheel. I just found out that the company went bankrupt and my steering wheel and shift boot are gone!! https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Apparently the company is operating under an new name Craft Customs same web address (http://www.american-stitches.com/ (http://www.american-stitches.com/)). I received the following reply from Carter the owner...Carter was the owner of the previous company American Stitches.

" Unfortunately, I was never able to gain access back to the warehouse where
everything was stored as the bank has taken that over and all the assets
associated with the business are gone. Carter"

Carter has offered me no solutions!!! This goes to prove that not all companies advertising on-line can be trusted...regardless if I spoke to them or not. Needless to say I am now in need of a new steering wheel and shift boot. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Any way, just thought I would make everyone aware of this so they don't get burnt by this company.

seems you need to find out what bank took over the assets and contact them. They cannot keep anything you can prove did not belong to the shop and was yours. However, if you do nothing they can and will sell it all to re-coup some of what is owed.

I honestly don't expect to get anything back. This is just a great learning lesson on my part. Apparently Carter knows nothing of my steering wheel or shifter boot being received. Go figure

Here is Carters latest email to me:

"I agree that this is unacceptable, but completely out of my control. I have never persoanally seen your steering wheel or gear boot, and new nothing of it until you contacted me after the business was already closed. I had hoped to do you a personal favor, and thought they would give me access back into the warehouse, at which time I would have searched for your parts, but they didn't. I am sorry and American Stitches is officially gone. Sincerely,Carter"

I am located in Canada and unable to do anything. I am very pleased with the support from the members and thats all I can ask for. :worship:

Cheers

The only way I can find out that info would be from Carter. But I could be wrong...how else would I find that info out?

Here is an email that I just sent Carter:

"Carter...this is in your control! I specifically spoke to John and we discussed plans for my steering wheel and shifter boot. I suggest you call him and he will tell you that it was received. Although John might not give a !@#$% and I'll still be out my steering wheel and shifter boot. Ask yourself this, why would someone from Canada be contacting you about a steering wheel that was sent to you???? I followed the written directions on American Stitches website on how to ship the item and return address, etc. I did everything as per your companies instructions!!!

I would like to think that you can make this correct but it appears that you are simply going to pass the buck and stick with the "American Stitches doesn't exist anymore story". Stay tuned for me comments on the web!"

Please note that "John" was an employee at American Stitches. For all I know he could have been part owner with Carter.

everything was stored as the bank has taken that over and all the assets

Well, I guess it's a good thing that YOUR steering wheel and shifter boot is not one of THEIR assets! Good luck getting your stuff back.

this is just such standard bs it makes me sick. and I do believe it is BS. The wording is so close it's kinda scary.
(been in your shoes before, heard it before, with the guy lying through his teeth while looking square at me. Scum.)

To me, it looks like the guy lost his business. If the bank legitimately locked him out of the warehouse space, he can't get in under any circumstances. If he LL evicted him under the same circumstances, same deal.

I don't think he intentionally screwed you (although you certainly were screwed), but assuming he is legitimately busto, what the hell? It's not like he was hording steeringwheels or shifters. IMO there's a big difference between bad service and somebody who went out of business.

If somebody has bad service and goes out of business, he gets what he deserves.

If somebody goes out of business and THEN gives bad service, it's just bad luck. Maybe this isn't the week for you to play Lottery.

I find it interesting that Carter suggests that he knew nothing of the shipment and didn't receive it...but the shipping receipt clearly indicates that he did.

Did I mention SCUMBAG???

Wait, so let me get this straight...

You mailed your steering wheel to the American Stitches office in Rowlett, TX. John then received the package at the office in Rowlett, then hand carried it to the warehouse in Rockwall? Or maybe the steering wheel never made it to the warehouse and it's still sitting in the office in Rowlett?

Correct, American Stitches received the steering wheel in Rowlett, TX. They went out of business, started up a new business called Craft Customs and relocated to Rockwall, TX.

But Carter tells me that he knows nothing about receiving my steering wheel and shifter boot...:ripped:

I don't think he stole it and took it with him, he probably just abandoned it and left it at his old place. Nevertheless, he should make it right for you.

Bank seizes everything, he's not getting back in there. If you did not tick him off too much, find out from him which bank seized the property, send them the delivery receipt and demand your property back from the bank.

You will recieve a letter from the bankruptcy court once things get filed all of the way and the lawyers go through all of the stuff. If you had a reciept or work order you will be able to make a claim for property or a loss. This will however could take up to 90 days. All of the stuff that was seized when they lock the doors is still there and if you have the paperwork you will have a chance of getting it back someday.

AMCMike has the right idea for you to follow. Noone intentionally goes out of business to screw people and if you have ever been in business you would understand from a different angle. I know it won't get your wheel back or ease your pain but the way you act now will affect the outcome. Finding out what bank may help you a bunch so try to find out.

I hope things go better in the future and know how you feel cause I have been on both side of this kind of situation and it feels worse to lose a business and have people hate you than to just lose a part or 2. Going over and beating him up won't get you anything but an assault charge and will cost you more than you already have lost.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks to all for the ideas. I have notified the authorities in Texas and I'll see what happens from there. I'll keep ya posted.
