Best old school 15 inch tires?

I am running 275/60s and 235/60's 15 inch, on my Mustang

My car drives just fine for a nose heavy BBF, but I have near zero straight line traction below 55 or so if I hit it hard

My BFGs are at least 5 years old, could they be hard or is there a better street tire in those sizes?

They are BFG T/A, if I dont hear of something better may just try a new set, they are cheap. Thanks

yea i'm sure your old tires are rock hard now ,but not many 15inch "street tires are gonna hook with a big block ..lol ,bfg is still good ,but i heard decent things about the firestone indy 500's i think that's the name.

Id say drag radials are the only ones going to hook really good.
Nittos last the longest and are ok in the rain
M/T radials hook the best and are not driveable in the rain
BFG's wear like crazy but hook pretty good

For street I like the Firestone Indy 500's, sticky and wear great, for cheap firestone produces Lemans SR.
For drag BFG or Hoosier in back and some old school Radial TAs up front.
      The Tas always look right.
I think Nitto has some 15s too.

I will NEVER use Mickey Thompsons ever again. They are made by one of the cheapest crap quality trie makers around Cooper.
TWICE my buddy had Coopers on one of his daily drivers (first set only hlaf worn out and second set brand new 3 weeks later)and he was taking me to doctor for checkups after breaking my hip in 94 and in light rain they let us slide through intersections, not even hard braking just trying to slow for lights. Cared me crapless as I was 4 weeks out after wreck and not really supposed to be driving but I was better at Indy driving than he was since I went to school there.
Mickey Thompson would roll over in his grave if he knew how bad thier (Cooper) quality was anymore.

Thats a pretty general statement on MT. There drag radials are proven to be one of the top performing tires in the dot drags. There are bad stories about every tire at some point.

Can you ask your dad details? F&R tire model (ex 555) and what he thinks about them after driving for a while? Would he buy the same again etc?

I am going to slap the 1/2 worn T/As back on today for sizing and the Fun Ford Weekend this weekend, so I have a little time

As far as Firestone Indy's, I heard a lot of good things, but if you look at Tire Racks reviews, they have a pile of crappy ones in terms of handling and sidewall. Sort of love or hate

I would go nuts if the the tires felt like they rolled on corners, worse than spinning LOL

      Thanks!

The Nittos I've never tried in a 15", but I hear they are nice in the 555R, no matching 555 for the front though. I have tried the Indy 500's and have liked those very much. Dunlop has a 15" option as well, in their Qualifier.

I have thousands of miles on Indy 500s and there is nothing wrong with them or the sidewalls. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
OH and I dont work for Firestone anymore.
BUT I will buy more Indys if I need white letter tires for my 15 in wheels.
As for Tire Rack I never believe many of the reviews on thier.
My buddy had to replace some wide performance tires and bought Fusion ZRi as I got my boss to get him a deal.(I workedthere at the time)Did they hold in snow but not even Potenza SO-3s wouldnt either.
So we took his car out after I reset the alignment at my new job, and burnt some corners and for a tire that was just over $100 each and the other choice was some crap genric tire or a $350 each tire they di an admirable job holding the on/off ramps around Bloomington Indiana. (And yes mr officer we arehaving problems with the brakes as they wont hold when my throttle sticks going around corners, see here is my mechanic in the passenger seat!)
But we really didnt go that fast did we,,,warning ticket for going 113 on an d off ramp. OOPPSS.
The kicker was as we wnt back to shop he actually did have the throttle stick and we had to install his brand new Lokar setup before he could leave Bloomington IN.
The tires are great in my opinion.

M/T drag radials and don't look back just stay out of the rain. I've been mid 1.5 short times with mine on the T/A. Can't get them to hook with the Tbrake but they are short 275-50's. If I went to a taller tire they would work even better.
