Is 9.5" as wide as you can run on a '69?

Rear wheel of course. Will an 11" wheel require a mini-tub?

      Inquiring minds want to know....

In my case, yes, a 9.5" wide wheel with 5.5 BS and a 275 section tire is the max. My driver side rear tire just kisses inner fender when the passenger front is jacked up. The passenger side tire section just knicks the unrolled fender lip - enough to leave a faint line on the tire. Also, my car has been lowered and the rear fender height is 24.5" from the ground. My car has a slight rearend shift to the passenger side, which I'm assuming most do.

You might get a 10" wheel in there if you're willing to roll the fender lip.

Thanks...that is strange though that your car rubs, how stiff is your suspension?Reason why I ask is because my car sits 23.5" from the center of the rear wheelwell to the ground (gotta love being able to walk out to the garage huh? ) and I'm currently running a 285/40 on a 17x9.5 w/5.5" b/s and I have no rubbing issues now.The only place it rubbed was when the body flexed going up driveways or culverts and only on the inner pass rear tire against the exhaust tube...I had them cut off and dump at the mufflers in front of the axle so no more issues there. My fenders have been rolled good.
I'm thinking of going to a 5.25" or maybe (maybe) a 5" b/s to pull the wheel out a hair.

      Anybody run this combo?

      Here's my car:

      John,

I've got Hotchkis 2407C's up front and stock leaf springs with 1" blocks in the rear. You've got more room than I do because your fender lips are rolled. I love your car!

I've had 10" wheels on both '69s and now on the '67. All with 5.5" bs

The rim width isn't as critical as the tire brand and tire width. Some brands run wider than they are rated, some run narrow or have rounded shoulders.

Narrow tires = Toyo Proxes, Nitto
      Wide tires = Goodyear, BFG

I can run 275s no problem, and run 285s with fender lip rolling. All on lowered vehicles.

All cars are different, but in my case, I've got 11 7/8" to play with between the inner fender and the fender lip. A 275 tire on a 9.5 rim gives me a section width of 11". Assuming a perfectly centered axle (which mine isn't) and perfect wheel offset (to center the tire in the wheel well) that leaves 7/16" clearance on each side of the tire. Pretty tight.

I agree with NineBall, in the end it is really the tire brand that mostly determines the widest that can fit on a non-minitubbed car. Here is mine with a BFG 295/35/18 on a 10" wheel (tire is 11.9" wide).

In the 3rd and 4th pics the car is dropped more (and dirtier at the shop). I cannot recall the backspacing, but the backspacing had to be tweaked really well to make them fit and the lips were rolled.
