Who makes the highest CFM flowing air filter? Jody and I were discussing how the filter that came with my F1R is the same that he got with his D1SC for his 540. If this is a limiting factor on how much air the blower sucks in, wouldn't there be something out that flowed better than that one? If my blower flows a max 2000 cfm, and the K&N from their study on their site only flows 893 cfm, shouldn't this hamper performance? I forgot to ask if Jody got another filter when he did his or not.

hard to tell from this old pic with the older throttle body setup, but the filter I used was about twice the cfm; larger diameter and longer, went clear to the master with no power booster, just like you have. I built a shield for the exhaust. It is not ideal but was the largest I could fit.
To be real good I've seen guys locate a very large filter in the cowl area with piping up to the blower. That way it draws cool outside air instead of underhood heated air.

I got the same small filter with my kit as you have. And if it hurt the small block on my other car, you can imagine what it will do with your F1R and big block! You do NOT want to restrict the inlet of a blower. If I remember correctly this new filter also had the open filter in the end cap also.

Like Jody said, size does matter. More square inches means less restriction.
This is my K&N can. It's 8"w X 12"t. The metal air intake adapter is 6" across on the big end, which gives you some scale:

And although you can't seen the entire height, here it is in front of my pass. side wheel:

Obviously not a setup for rain! I might make an airbox with a drain to cover it up, but I'm not really interested in a true daily driver.
Of all the air filter tests I've seen, K&N or maybe another wire and gauze filter flowed the best.

Is there a benefit to the cone vs to straight?
Jim, on your car with the 6" piping what did you use to step down to your inlet?

Jody after you left I started trying to look at your pics and I thought that filter was different on that car than mine, it looked longer, a lot longer.... Thanks again for the help on Saturday!!

whytry, there's pix of the 6"-to-4" adapter I made at my site, about a third of the way down.

Thanks Jim, I see the adapter you made. I got a filter from a old vehicle I had 97 2 dr Tahoe, round 4" inlet 7" round x 12" long. I don't think I can fit the one you are running without a lot of fab work, and I am not the best welder.

Well, the inner piece is mostly pressed into the outer ring, and then my friend welded them for strength and security - it probably would have held forever without welding, but we're talking like a $25 job for a TIG shop.
