Hi everyone, Ive been trying to ID this transmission all day and short of pulling it off to get a number or plate off it I thought I would drop in here and try and get a hand.

Its a 69 camaro with a stock V8 (350) and a stock column shifter. I'm not so sure the transmission is stock. I know what a powerglide and a th350 look like but this one doesnt look like either (the pans anyway)

I found this picture on the internet when I was searching for an answer
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/04/transpan-1.gif

and it looks like the one on the far left but I dont think a 700r4 came in a 69 camaro from what info I can find. I tried to take a picture but my camera isnt good enough with the lighting and distance to take even a crappy picture.

Any ideas, or any other trans pans that could be almost perfectly rectangle?

Is it a 2,3,or 4 speed?

not sure how many speeds molyorange 77, the car isnt really driveable at the moment (replacing rear frame rail). I would have said powerglide also quadfather but the pan looks so close to a 700r4... I'm going to buy a better camera and see if I cant get a picture of it.

Driving me nuts I cant find any numbers on it to ID it better.

Remove the shifter linkage from the tranny and run it through the gears by hand. Count each click, then you can figure if it's a 2 speed 'glide, a 3 speed 350 or a 4 speed 700.
1st click for park, 2nd click for reverse, 3rd click for neutral, 4th click for drive, etc...
Does it have a vacuum modulator? 700R4s don't use vacuum assist. A TH400 has a modulator but doesn't use a detent cable. A power glide has a modulator but uses a kick-down rod assembly (no cable). A 700 and a 350 both use detent cables.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Texas Hotrod! Thats a great idea, the second I get a chance Ill check using your technique. I saw the linkage and I think it will be easy to do. Hopefully I can get to it this coming week.

By the way, not sure what a vacuum modulator is or looks like, but Ill do some research and check that also.
