Anyone Ever Install Their Own Sump Pump?

Hey all,
My house _never_ gets water, but with the 6+ inches of rain we got over the last two days, I've been sucking water out from under the subfloor in my finished basement with a ShopVac. Anyone ever do their own sump pump? How hard was it? I have a fair amount of experience working around the house, and my father-in-law is an old-school brick/tile/masonry expert from Italy. Think we could tackle this job? :help:

If you already have the pit in the floor for one the job is a pice of cake. All you need is the pump a check valve and some pipe. Usually from what i've seen the pipe is 1 and a half pvc. Pick up a length of that along with some pvc prime and pvc glue and maybe a couple of 90 's and 45's. The pump will be the most expensive part of the project. good luck chris

piece of cake if your foundation has a hole setup for one. If not, I would not break through the floor yet- there may be a lot of water under it that would come in - best to do any concrete work once it dries back out in a few weeks.

I'm happily dry so far-- but just down the road there was a house with water up to the bay window this morning- and a flooded out farm. Tough stuff- I hope they had flood insurance.
