the rad rides site is down..

I probably missed it in the 13 pages of this thread, but what is the reason/inspiration for the hood?

Your question alone is the reason. There is so much controversy on the hood. That alone is probably the reason. You know it's non-functional. Like I said before, it's Troy's "Dare to be different" mindset. Trust me, It'll be awesome. I saw it painted last week. It rocks.

hehe..thanks! My dad is pretty happy with the way its turning out. Youre right in that the pictures dont do it justice. Ive seen the car in person and the color still doesnt look true to what it really is. Only when you see it in the natural sunlight..does it really come out. We had the hood outside last week and the metallic really pops at that point. You really cant see the two tone either in any of them.

heres another pic from my phone..crappy i know!

I have too say, that is awesome, I just watched the entire slide show from Troy's, I don't know how much their work cost you, but You need to give them a tip. They have done some incredible work. I have no budget for my project, If I can't fabricate it, I'm not getting it! They have created a one of a kind Nova, My jaw was dropped in awe of their craftsmanship, I could only hope to someday acquire their skills of fabrication and inspiration, sorry I'm still drooling.

Nice! I think they look great. My previous question was more because I wanted to be sure I was seeing them right, and I don't think I've seen it done before.

Troy builds some great cars. His shop is a couple hours away from me, too far just to swing by, but man would I love to someday

Yes i think they are tail lights off of a camaro RS either 68-69. If you ever get a chance you need to check the shop out. Lot of things to see.

Exhaust is completed and fully installed. Gas tank and flexfuel sensor is in place and all of the necessary plumbing is installed. Belly pan will cover the whole gas tank and a lot of the exhaust back there.

Happy Friday.

the trunk lock is gone. The filler neck simply runs through the metal on the back of the car and into the fuel cap. Ill see if i can get a picture of it.

Thanks for the comment. We are pretty modest but i will say that it will be nice to rep the old school muscle crowd (esp the novas) out on the street. I think the most fun is going to be taking it out at night since its such a dark car.

I'm going to ASSUME he is talking about John's 66 Nova being built by Ironworks. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17108
His username on here is novanutcase. It too looks like a badass nova someday, but it's gonna be awhile until it's in the finsihing stages like this one. So for now, I'm saying this is the baddest nova in the country and we'll see what the future holds.

From dictionary.com
notorious [nəˈtoːriəs] adjective
well-known for badness or wickedness
Example: a notorious murderer

The name came out of my dad, brother and myself thinking of good names. Once we had the idea of what kind of car we were going for...dark and spooky...the name fit perfectly. I dont know what else it could be called, notorious just fits!

Sorry guys...not much to post for today(yesterday). I have one cruddy picture of the door panel. At least you can see the textures here and the red stitching. Tracy did an incredible job. Very very impressed for sure.

Trunk is completed, left and right door panels are complete, front seats and headliner alll done, the rear seat and panels are almost done. Also the carpet is in. The leather they used has a very unique look and feel to it. Tracy stitched using a red thread so it looks bitchin!

This Car is an amazingly awesome built car!
But has zero sex appeal, No contrast and is allllll so DARK with the wheels and trim and engine, again awesome ride but this keeping up with the jones trend of dark wheels and bland colors plz say its a fad! I think the wheels is the down fall and dont get me started on the 69 razor car whats up with those wheels! Beautiful ride and the wheels in the first picks were off the chains nice. Wish them luck though really cool peices but again personal prefrence as for color.

What kind of sex appeal should have been done? I dont really think you understand the type of car this is supposed to be? Wheel wise...you cant put blingy chrome on it, because there is no chrome whatsoever on the vehicle. If this car was to keep up with the jones or whatever...it would have had been painted gloss black, with a big hood scoop along with the typical chrome rims, bumpers, grill etc etc. Also, the supercharger would have a big tube running across the engine into a nasty looking throttle body hat.
Not calling you out or anything but i think you should see these cars in person before you make radical opinions about them.

It will be on the top list of things to check out Sat.
And like i said in typical Troy fassion the detail will be off the charts.
And by my keeping up with the jones comment its about alllllll the cars that are following this current trend of Dark wheels and no contrasting look to the car in anywhere. Troy is one of my favoraite builders and has built some unforgetable cars this one just seems pretty forgetable.
But i'll hold final judgement till i see it.Although it sure is nice to see a Nova instead of another Camaro Good luck this weakend!

Yeah the racepak is sweet. Also this particular one is the only one thats in a car as of now. Its a prototpye model that they are developing to sell soon. The differences are that it has turn signal indicators and a few other buttons that make it more suitable for a street car. Im sure my dad is going to love driving his beast with that thing!

I think the racepak is around 1k. As for the rest of it im not sure how many hrs are into the actual dash and dash piece. 18 inch rims with a 295 tire

the nova is amazing man. just awesome. to bad i wont be able to make it to columbus to see it in person but from the pics it just is breath takin. congrats on a sweet ride man. hope u guys drive the balls off it! :drive:

Thanks for the comments. There will be plenty of pictures and a build book. We are going to drive it!

Simply outstanding car from front to back, I like everything about it. The wheels are especially cool.

I've been following the project since the beginning.

18 inch rims with a 295 tire Now that you mention it, I went back up to the picture of the wheel and noticed I could read the dimensions right on the tire..295/45/ZR18

I still can't get over that dash though. I like that racepak, I want one! That dash surround panel around the racepak and the tach looks great. I like how you can see the contours on it. Very well done!

Dosent the racepak have a Tach built in it? I think it would loook alot cleaner with just the racepak and no tach looks a little out of place! I hate to sound negative but theres just to many things that look out of place un "Troy like" on this car. certainly at least a 20-18 wheel combo! And thought this was a two tone car? cant really tell.

Been lurking on this thread for a year.. Very nice project. Cant wait to see it the finished product. I like the taller sidewall on the tires. nice change from the recent trend of rubberbands. Are those tires available anywhere? Also, what are the rim widths?

Good luck in Columbus. Wish I were closer. would love to be there.

For 3 Large its not going to be rolling on 18" wheels let alone ones that look like that, And when you can open your wallet and have some one build one for you sure you can sit back and have time to post photos on links like this, let me know when you wanna talk about someone enjoying building there car by themselves and when they have the talent to do also themselves. That's what its all about.
Now mind you if i could open check book a car I would have Troy build one he is probably one of the finest if not the finest builders around for thinking out side the box and very creative, Like i said before this car is very un troy like, and seems a little trendy!

I don't see where that means anything. I love building cars but if I had the money it would be a no brainer to let someone else do it.

I'd have absolutely no problem enjoying this Nova no matter who built it and I think you would too if it was handed to you.

And I believe Stang97 is the son of the owner of the car. If it wasn't for him sharing these photos we'd all be missing out on alot of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in one of these builds.

I totally agree with you CYA RS 92,not everyone has the talent, time or desire to build their own dream car and that has absolutely zero to do with the fact we all enjoy this hobby. If you can do this, more power to you but I don't see that as an end-all.Heck...if I had the coin,I'd love to commision someone as talented as Troy or the Ring Brothers to build me a car.:usa:...who fricking wouldn't?:screwy:
From what I've seen so far, this is a stunning build on a concept that has never been attempted before and I will reserve judgement on the complete package until I've seen the whole car,not just the teaser pics that have been posted.

300K is easier to spend today than you can imagine. It astoundes me the amount of money that our customers spend on "extras" such as engine upgrades, suspension pieces, interior fabrication.

On a plus note - it keeps me employed doing what I love to do.

On a side note, anything coming out out of Rad Rides is cutting edge and top-notch. That costs $$$$$$$$$ Very few shops can do what Rad Rides does.

Now that I have another look at the hood, I kinda agree with you guys. If the bulge was on both sides it would look really good, but only on the driver side looks a little funky. The car is a work of art.

Is there things I would have done differently, sure. But if we all had the same taste, it would get boring around here quick.

This car started out pretty sweet. I like the front end, the stance and the rearend. Then it was ruined with the hood, spoiler, interior and covering up the gas tank. The heat that is going to build up just spells problems.

Don't get me wrong. There was a lot of custom bodywork and hard time put into it that I like. Over all I like the car but there are changes I personally would have made. I do give them kudos for something different.

If you look back thru the build pics, The exhaust that is routed thru the the belly pan in back is wrapped in some sort of thermal pipe wrap. I'm assuming that this is to keep the heat down.

Some of the design elements have stirred up some controversy here on these boards, but IMO this is one of (if not THE) nicest nova builds i've ever seen. Its about stepping outside the box, And Troys guys have done just that here. :worship:

I'd like to see some closeups of the interior details if anyone has some pics of it to post.
The interior was done to Troy's specs,Pretty basic with some cool fabric and color choices.I used leather, canvas, cloth.Dash was painted and also the console. The whole idea was to give it a stripped down muscle car look with the design part of it.Wasn't trying to start new trends, just a nice look for the car. There is some good pics on the columbus threads that Marty took and put up,I have a bunch as soon as i get around to posting pics(still need a photo host, any suggestions?)

Quoted from the News section of goodguys hot rods about this weekends chicago show. Should be a great time!

"Harry Daviess, Goodguys VP of Event Operations just called from the Chicagoland Speedway and could barely contain his excitement over this weekend’s 2nd PEAK Chicagoland Nationals. “You should see this place,” Daviess said. “It looks like a major league baseball stadium. The grass is almost neon green. Everything is so clean and ready for Goodguys. This is going to be an awesome weekend.”

The weather is also shaping up to be chamber of commerce perfect. The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies and high temperatures in the low 80s all the way through Sunday. Last week when hurricane Ike hit the Midwest there was some flooding in the state of Illinois but Daviess reported that the Chicagoland facility was unaffected.

In other event news, the vendor midway has been completely sold out for this weekend and Goodguys swap meet coordinator Jeff Johnson reports that he expects this year’s swap meet to nearly double in size.

Rad Rides by Troy of nearby Monteno, Illinois has confirmed that their latest rad ride – the “Notorious” 1970 Nova will be out getting thrashed on in this weekend’s Street Challenge Autocross. The Autocross is scheduled for 9am to 4pm both Friday and Saturday (with an hour lunch break at noon) and is open to all registered event participants.

Another popular event highlight will be the Saturday evening track cruise which begins at 4pm. Every event participant will have a chance to cruise the hi-banks of Chicagoland Speedway! Pick up your track cruise tickets at event registration. For a complete look at this weekend’s 2nd PEAK Chicagoland Nationals, visit the official event website here: www.chicagolandnats.com"
