I've got a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. (5.2L auto ).
I'm adding an additional auxillary transmission cooler in series with the factory trans cooler that is made into the radiator tank.
Is it best to use the auxillary cooler before or after the factory cooler ? And why ?

If you live in a cold climate, after, as it will help warm the fluid after startup. If not, then either way is fine. My camaro is after the radiator as I need to keep it as cool as possible.

Well , I live in Ga. , so I guess the trans needs as much help as possible. But , if I run it through the radiator cooler first then won't it transfer more of the heat into the engine coolant. That would be worse for the engine but a little better for the trans ?

Don't worry about that unless you have a cooling problem to begin with. If the coolant is a little warmer then the thermostat opens a little more.
Actually, I'm not sure it makes much of a difference. The trans cooler heats up some of the air going to the radiator, so it warms up the coolant either way.
FWIW, GM runs the trans cooler after the radiator tank cooler.

A lot of guys don't even run it through the rad. I'm not in the hottest climate and I'm not going through the rad. Given I don't flog my car until its at operating temps, and I always let it warm up before driving
