I am trying to add a tilt steering column to my '69 Camaro without spending a ton of cash. Rebuilts are $350 and up! Will a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gen column fit my 69?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a column out of a 82 Firebird.

A third gen will fit. You should cut off the firewall plate and use the first gen plate. The other thing you will need to re use is the u- bracket from the first gen column. If you wouls also like to use the column mounted dimmer, you need to notch the bracket where the pushrod goes.

Ok,

I will try to use a tilt column from an 82-92 Camaro or Firebird. Does it matter if it is an auto or manual trans?

I am installing a T56 this spring into my 69 Camaro (an original TH350 car).

If there is a difference, which should I use?

Thanks for the help.

Does this mean a second gen steering column will not fit (w/o a lot of convincement)? Cause that's what I have.

The manual trans columns have the lever that needs to be pressed to get the key out. Auto columns do not. That's the only difference I've found.

I'm not sure. I didn't try putting a second gen column into a first gen (I had a third gen column:naughty: ). The best way to figure it out is to try.
