Does anyone here know the performance advantages of a truck arm setup (like the center drive) versus a set of nice arms and LCA relocation brackets? It's on an '85 SS and I'll be using it for autocross and road racing, as well as plenty of street driving..but I'm used to a pretty harsh ride so Im not too worried about that. I know the rideheight is adjustable with the HTH setup, but once everything is tuned, what kind of performance difference am I looking at?

I really want to do the truck arms, but that limits your exhaust choices and is quite expensive as well.

I want to get rid of the crappy stock catback very soon, and if the truck arms are really that much better, I'll need to figure out something for the tailpipes so I dont have to do it twice. Probably run dumps until everything is set up and then figure out what my options are from there.

BTW, what do people do with the exhaust on a truck arm setup? Is it totally unreasonable to think I still might get away with rear or side exit tails?

you might have to try to get an underside view of a nascar or a 59/60 el camino/impala or a 60's C series truck to see how they run there exhaust..

thats a good idea.

Nascars get around it with a big flat tailpipe going out in front of the rear tire. I want to go out in front of the rear tire too, but my buddy already has nascar boom tubes on his car and I want something different.

trucks have tons of room to play around with underneith, so I dont know how much help that would be.

If you plan on running the truckarms, you will most likely not be legal for any of the "stock" classes and may not have a "big enough gun" to successfully run in the Open or Modified classes. Just a thought.

In auto X, the engine, and trans already have me out of any of the stock or stock prepaired classes.

I have no ide about road racing though.

You should wait for the 3-link that Marcus is bringing out.

Can't help with road course racing classification, though. For HPDE or other non-competitive road course running, it shouldn't matter as long as the fabrication itself is sound.

Does anyone here know the performance advantages of a truck arm setup (like the center drive) versus a set of nice arms and LCA relocation brackets? The axle roll steer% changes less with changes in rear ride height. That helps make it 'predictable' and allows you to run a smaller amount of [vehicle] roll understeer. That the various NASCAR-type driving experiences will turn people with absolutely no known or verifiable performance driving credentials loose between concrete walls at 135+ mph with such a suspension arrangement has to count for quite a bit . . .

Good point Norm.

SickSpeed,

HTH advertises that you can still run exhaust out the rear w/o a problem. Out the sides is very doable, but getting it quiet might be another story because of how short the exhaust will be. Also, you have a t56 in you car correct? That will also make running any kind of x or h pipe a little more difficult. I am building my own truck arm setup, and my exhaust guy is already dreading the job. Mine makes it more difficult because I have more bracing in mine that HTH provides w/ their setup. I am sure you have seen pics of mine before on the montess site, but for a reminder and those who haven't here are some pics.

I can't run my exhaust out the rear because of the crossbar behind the axle for my shocks, and strength.

Good luck w/ your decision.

Yeah Joe, I have drooled all over those pictures before :)

I am actually running a ZF, only an inch longer than the 200r

Thanks for all the info guys!
