gtspirit.com and bullrun.com has a lot of info on these pro-touring candy's...enjoy but please come back to pro-touring.com

+"slowly accumulating parts to make the bird a pro-touring machine" better accelerate your purchase and be dead serious in your project if you want to compete with ferrari enzo, lambo murcielago and porsche carrera gt on the street, some of those toys have well over
$ 200000-$ 500000 in performance parts chosen and tested by engineers used to a racing environnement.

good luck if you want to compete unless you drive a low profile vehicule that can dissapears from police radar.

I hear ya, but isn't everybody supposed to follow the rules of the road on those runs? So to me, if thats the case, speed and the most expensive go fast goodies really don't make that big a deal. I understand there would be the occasional high speed blast, but for the most part I think its about navigation, fuel economy, and outwitting your opponents.

Like Acadian said, Gtspirit.com has a lot of info on the international rally scene. Bullrun- anybody can run it if you can afford the $17,500 entry fee, and what ever tickets / jail time you happen to be involved with during the run.

The Great American run is $10,000 and Gumball 3000 (because of the exchange rate) is close to $50,000.

This year in the States, we have Bullrun, Players Run, The Great American Run, The Fireball Run, just to name a few. Over in Europe, there are at least 15 or so rally's being run "this season".

It's what they say, but if you aren't cruising at 100+ for long periods of time, have great range and great nav skills not to mention police detection and evasion techniques you are going to be far from the front of the pack.

LOL,... sure. (chuckle)

Tonight we learn who's... um... even richer!! (as most "bullrunners" appear pretty well off anyway ). I know there's been some bad blood between participants, but I hope in the end everyone realizes this is just a fun thing to do with neat cars. I'd save your "long-term" animosity for dweebs in Smartcars, and get back to a positive vibe about the car hobby in general.

Watching this show has given me the kick in the ass necessary to pull my old Goat out from under the tarp (after sitting for 7 years!) and get 'r back to her former glory!! The amount of info and parts availability found on the internet has really opened my eyes!! Reading about the Chargers components, and the realization that the mid-70's muscle of the Olds is now worth restoring, has me focused again, like when I bought it 26 years ago. My daughter is 16 next year, and the Alsops have inspired me to "get it together" so WE can do neat stuff together, too.

So thanks to all the drivers who took the time to post on this forum. I really don't care who's car is faster than who's. You're all out there throwing these cars around like they're meant to be, and that's just plain cool!!

lmfao, check out the comments on the bullrun website

"This is the 1st time Bullrun Live Rally participants are seeing Mike in person. Many have mentioned that Mike looks too young to be Morgan's father and that it may be a hoax for the Spike show. He may actually be her older brother.

There have been talks among Bullrunners to conduct a DNA test before the end of the rally. The Alsops have been too busy with the car to comment. More news to come."

good havin ya on the board guys, kick some exotic ass in the real bullrun!

hey guys, one more thing...

bullrun on spike tv is definitely not bullrun 2007 montreal-key west wich is basically a deep pocket, drive as fast as you can and try to avoid jail to win...

bullrun on spike truly is a rally

bullrun (real event) is called a rally for legal reasons and being able to occur but in fact it is an all out illegal race that has some check points, that's it folks. not what you see on tv for sure...except for movies like cannonball run or gumball rally if you remove all the lame jokes.

Congrats to Team Oldd too. I am sure it was a tough decision to get the brakes fixed, but it paid off in the challenge. Nice driving Rich. Definitely under a lot of pressure to push the hell out of the car when you are not the primary driver. That was a nice final episode. I was glad to see the F Body take it.

I will say, as much as I despise the F150 boys attitudes, based on the expressions on their faces, were much better sportsmans than the Olds guys. But perhaps that was because they had the whole 2nd leg to accept that they were going to lose, and team Olds really had a chance.

Then again, I would be pretty upset about losing being that close too.

Overall, congrats to everyone who made it through this. You all showed some good driving and navigating abilities. I will also say that the last 4 teams were the ones who actually got along in the cockpit and didn't have all the in-fighting going on. Good job on cool heads and a great show.

One thing that I have noticed about Bullrun is that one has to have REALLY good navigational abilities. One also has to have fairly decent gas mileage.

Congrats to the Alsops! My Son and I are big fans of the show. Now I'll have to do school work on Monday nights.

I do have some questions about the times.

You guys (Trans Am) had a 7 min head start on the last leg. The Olds guys came in before you. Yet you still won by 9 minutes.

The Ford PU had a 2 hour disadvantage, made up at least 45 minutes and still lost by 2 hours.

What was up with that?

So, who would have won if it was cumulative times over the whole trip?

Chad-1stGen
05-16-2007, 08:36 PM
I think while the olds guys said they only had 7 minutes to make up that it was closer to 17?

Anyhow the last episode was one of the best. The Ford guys getting stuck with that time and then using the dirt road to come in first was pretty cool. The show made it seem closer than it was once you got to see the times though. It looked like they were still close to two hours behind.

Man that episode rocked. Gratz to team Alsop and I loved the victory burn out.

After the second leg the times displayed are cummulative with the frist time and second time. Also, remember the teams don't start at the same time so while the editing makes it look like a made scramble to get in your cars and take off perhaps there is a larger gap than we are shown? Same with the arrivals. It's hard to tell how much time has really elapsed between arrivals.

Maybe a show participant can chime in.

PS to the Olds team how come you guys are not at the real bullrun?

Some info:
Mike and Morgan and even Jason and Jake did an incredible job...still the end is quite sketchy so I will leave it at that for now. Regardless, I feel the three finalists did deserve to be there and were all very worthy of being called champion.

Our brakes:
We actually had work done by two different shops, neither could fix the problem...it was unfixable. I actaully got on my knees and begged the Pep-Boys master mechanic to take a look at the car and figure out what was wrong. He refused to be on camera, so that part was edited out.

What we learned when we got back home was that the calipers that we installed in the Hurst for the rally were for a different make, model, and for a car with no power brakes. The company that sent it to us made an error...........A TREMENDOUS ERROR (this had an impact on us mentally and physically since we were constantly working on the car while others were resting and or partying).

So what was happening was that the pistons of the calipers were not large enough to accomodate the amount of fluid and pressure being generated by our brake system, so the weakest link would give out....that being the rear cylinders, they would over-extend the pistons every time we braked hard thereby shooting fluid out and losing pressure and all brakes.

In the challenge against the Lotus, somehow our power steering resevoir ran dry once we started so it was nearly impossible to turn the wheel....thats why we lost so miserably. Had our car been running 100% I no have no doubt in my mind that we would have spanked them.....you cant believe how well this car handles, Lambo team knows, us and them had some serious fun on the leg we did together prior to hitting the racoon.

We also had a power drain since day one that required us to disconnect the battery after every stop or else the battery would be dead by the next day.

Thanks all!

Rich

Car was not ready was the main reason we did not enter the real Bullrun, we did not feel competitive in the 73 Cutlass with the 350, and the other Olds were in various stages of restification. We almost had a big sponsor but when the Hurst's appearance became questionable due to ongoing mechanical repairs and improvements they backed down.

BTW my blazing performance in the last challenge was in part due to an unleashing of 700hp, via 150hp NOS shot, when I was at the wheel! If you take note as I take off, very easily so as not to roast the tires or break the axles, I then punch it and hit the NOS, but the lines had not been purged so the car bogs momentarily (I thought it was going to stall!!) then takes off like a bat outta hell; felt damn good, I could do that all day and night!

That was hundreds of gallons of gasoline in that explosion, it felt like a bomb, shook the ground and shattered windows miles away...insane and over the top!

Aww, man - I just finished watching the (recorded) 2nd to last episode. Now I know who won! :squint:

While I was watching it, they had a commercial for the final show, and said who was in it!! So that ruined that episode.. what the heck were they thinking!

This show was great, but I'm afraid if they keep doing it then it won't be much more interesting the 2nd time.... or the 53rd.

Congrats to all who participated...especially the final three and the Alsops!!

Rich -

Nitrous or not, you still had to go around corners and you were flying...
Congrats overall. To make it to the top two was no small feat. Add in all of the bugs along the way and it was a very impressive showing.
