It just heartened me that the Olds guys came in first place this past episode. This is because they were usually at the very bottom of the heap on previous episodes.
Way to go, Old guys!!!

So when watching this latest episode I had a thought. How are they going to finish/declare a winner when it's down to the last two or three cars?
The idea of the last two cars just driving from one city to another for the win seems lame especially since that is totally dependant on reliability and navigation and not so much driver skill. I guess if the last two cars do two legs with a challenge in the middle it would be ok.
That gives me an idea. If you were a betting man and confident you could win any challenge and it's down to the last two cars so you are guaranteed the challenge then on the first leg you could go a slow as possible to get a crazy bad time and then dump it on the other guy by winning the challenge...

Well, the inevitable happened tonight. Team Chevy (the Mexicans) got bumped tonight. They got held up because one of their team members had to take a fairly long trip to the bathroom. While I was not surprised, I was quite disappointed. Those guys were such fun!
Again, Team Olds took first place. Team F-150 came from fairly far back earlier in the show and took second place in the end. Unfortunately, Team Charger went to the bottom of the rung because of fuel mileage issues.
From hearing Goldberg talk, things are going to get very interesting.....

Good job guys- I'm glad it just wasn't those Ford truck guys. It is a shame to see the Mexican dudes go, they were hillarious. The guy was complaining that he needed to drop the kids off at the pool and then takes that long? That must have seemed like hours for the driver that was waiting for him.
It seems like everybody needs to have a group hug.

Yeah it's definetly getting way more cut-throat. Goldberg said something about a format change for the challenges, I wonder what that'll be. Maybe only two teams go into a challenge now instead of four, picked only by the team in 1st? Who knows, but it's gonna get nuts the next few episodes that's for sure!

Ive been following the show too. Now were the Lotus guys actually as big of *****s as they come off as on tv or is that part of the editing? Personally I cant stand them, especially the big guy. Hopefully Team Lotus or Team Honda with badass Dirty Rice is gone next. Anyway, good luck to Team Olds and Charger.

The F-150 driver is an idiot. Did he not think a ~80mph run through a brick wall wouldn't do anything?! Then he denies knowing why Lotus and Honda were penalized, admits to what he did, and then gets mad because someone calls him for lying. I really want these guys OUT!!
I am still rooting for the Charger and Olds.

If I was in a high-stakes poker tournament, and I saw my apponent pull an ace from his sleeve, am I supposed be "cool" about it and keep my mouth shut? The Ford guys are boring as hell (using cruise control) but they're competing for a ton of money! I have no use for all the "tough-guys" that want to step up and assault someone they don't like.
Frankly, I don't see why there ever was ANY alliances. Navigate well in a reliable vehicle and you should do well on the road portions regardless if everyone else is your buddy. I look forward to the end when it's truly every man/girl for themselves! I'll bet the walkie-talkie's will hardly get used at all pretty soon ;)
I most appreciate team Olds for staying out of the "tough-guy" BS and point out that this is about sitting in cool cars and DRIVING!!
Angry, there's NO doubt you have the nicest ride out there. I just hope you don't get caught short of fuel. That would be a sad way to lose.
The Ford should NOT have tried to beat that Lotus. Who here really thinks that tank could have beat that racecar in a test of acceleration? Just silly. He wrecked his truck for no reason. I suspected that Goldgerg would later show everyone that the wall was actually made out of harmless foam. I was half/right in that it was made from foam of some sort, but certainly wasn't harmless, LOL.
My bet for the win??... Team TransAm (believing a performance challenge will win over F150 in the final)

The F-150 guys and Mr. Angry had a point. Yes, the Lotus and Civic finished the race in formation. But how did they close on the F-150 running on cruise control if they were not exceeding the speed limit? As for their beer tent histrionics....I think my wife nailed it. "What a bunch of juviniles." Followed by, "Did that grown adult male actually use the word "hatin"?"
My thoughts: C'mon toughguy. Wanna do more than run your mouth? Go ahead. There is a camera here to capture you in all your bada$$ glory while you beat me up prior to your ejection from the race and arrest and conviction for assault. Don't like that scenario.....then shaddup.
Ok enough of the reality show drama.
This last episode was a little dull except for the aforementioned. But what the heck are they going to do in Eastern Nevada and West Utah? There's really only one road. 80. I hope the future stages put a greater premium on navigation I would hate to see this thing decided based on fuel mileage.
How long do we have to wait to see the auto-x looking challenge that is in the intro? There is a brief shot of the Olds running the cones.
Too bad they didn't let you guys out on the salt. It would have been fun to see what the absolute top speed of the various cars was on the long course at Bonneville.

I'm not sure what the speed limit is out there, but I was thinking that too. The F-150 guys filmed the Lotus and Civic speeding and then they show their speedo at 80mph. Most places I've ever been that's speeding. Maybe the show had their own limit like some others have said.

Give this man a cigar! You nailed it. Actually we had to stick to only 5mph over the limit and we could go up to 10mph over to pass, but that was it.
We had no cruise control and our speedo was completely off due to the last minute rear end swap. We had to guess our speed since it was more innacurate the faster we went. Unfortunately the camera crew following us often corrected us on the slow side, we confirmed this when riding along side some of the newer cars with calibrated speedometers.

Man we prepared the olds to do 180+mph, I spoke to 3 automotive aerodynamicists and did plenty of reasearch myself to get this Hurst "missle" stable at ultra high speeds. So believe me we too were disappointed...man would it have gotten crazy if there was no speed limit, I was hoping to get at least one balls out run against the Lambo. We had the car tuned for mid to high RPM power, my brother took the car upto 160+ "testing" before we left and she was still pulling and that was with BFG Comp T/A tires on 15" Cutlass rims, and without the laughing gas so she was ready and willing.

Worst...the most scary horrible road I have ever been on in my life. I believe it was a 2500' drop, no reflectors and no guard rails, single lane, and it was designated a US highway!!!!!! The sign said 15mph, we were doing like 5 and even that felt fast at times. Last episode was a good one. The roads were terrible and as of now everyone is under the gun to try and win the 200k. From this point on it gets VERY interesting. The entire mood was actually brought down when the Mexican's left as they were really comic relief for everyone on the show.
The Charger did what it was supposed to do which was handle, brake and overall just perform. I don't think anyone on the show though it was anything more than a big shiny black car with some wheels on it when we got there... it was just cool to see it get a little respect after awhile.

Just had a chance to watch the full episode from last week. Not-fer-nuthin but Alsop hopping out of the car when they got pulled over was monumentally stupid. A great way to spend a 1/2 hour along the highway while Johnny Law searches your whole car. You never hop out of the car, never. His daughter was wrong, way-wrong. Driving with the hi-beams on is a classic tell that cops use to suss out drunk drivers. Middle of the night, in a state that is highly intolerant of alcohol.....what do you expect?
Mike handled his cop-stop like an adult.
Anyone know the nature of the Lotus guys "enterpeneurial" pursuits?

Yeah it was intense for sure! That show keeps getting better and better. Now it's going to get cut-throat worse than before. I noticed next week's episode is the one where Mike (Mr. Angry) slams his helmet on the ground, I hope this doesn't spell the end for the coolest Charger on the planet! I'm not too worried yet because it's at the challenge so they should still have the 2nd leg to make up time if they get screwed in the challenge. Just some speculation!

What's the deal with not commenting until all have seen the episode. Just don't read this thread until you've watched it, LOL.
The Charger wouldn't run because of a loose exhaust gasket??? I don't get it.
Sheez! How the heck do you guys manage with the cops down there?! 7-10 mph over the speed limit? Big whip!! No wonder "girl" is getting rather expressive with her demeanour! It's neat how they both control each others attitude, LOL.
It's pretty obvious to me that people ARE speeding. Olds was squeeled-on for doin' 100mph, and Lotus actually hit 140mph on camera (no penalty though). This is good... now it looks like a classic gumball.
I won't miss that toughguy from the Lotus. It looks good on him that HE'S the reason their out (piss-poor navigating). I'm sure he's got better things to do anyway, like drown kittens and junk.
I see corporate America is alive and well as Sonic (show sponsor) got their "plug".
The drama between Olds and Charger adds much interest to the show, but I'm still betting on TransAm and Ford in the final.

yea, I don't understand how the charger stalled cause of low backpressure, then once they bolted the collector back to the exhause she didn't start right up. Is it because the compression maybe is high??? I've run my 350 through headers only ( it wasn't for very long) and it ran.

I have no idea what compression Mike is running is his 440, but I could see lack of back pressure causing the engine not to run.
Now it's no comparisson by any means to Mike's beautiful car but i had a 79 Olds Cutlass years ago with a 305 chevy in it. My buddy and I were ditching the stock manifolds for a set of Hookers. For **** and giggles once the manifolds were off we decided to start the engine with just bare cyclinder heads. It took alot to get it started and then wouldn't idle at all unless the gas pedal was pushed in almost all the way. But it was cool. It went from grandma car to NASCAR within 30 minutes of bolt turn.......just didn't run like one.
So I could see a motor not wanting to run with 4 out of 8 cyclinders having zero back pressure.
and after trying to start it for a little while with no result yeah the carb probalbly was flooded.
But what do I know? .......maybe Mr Angry will chirp in here and tell us all how it was.

I'll be honest here, I wish Team Olds let you run again (I'm alittle upset at you guys) but I understand it's a competition and you wanted payback for being paired with the Lotus last week.
I am in the Olds corner to go all the way now.
What a figgin episode! I really thought Charger may pull it off. I actually thought for a second that team Alsop would give you the time bonus to keep you in. However, I don't think Olds should have let the charger run again. As they said on the show sheet happens. You only get one try, they didnt let anyone else have a do over for any reason during the other challenges.

05-09-2007, 07:59 AM
Ok here is the low down. I have pretty much kept quiet in spite of the unwarranted negativity and hatred thrown at us from the other teams, but last night really got my goat.....so here is some dirt:
So the true colors are shown!!!
From the start we ran a clean rally and did not talk crap about anyone, yet they all hated us and we suspect they still do. Why? We still dont know, but episode 9..........
What they didnt show is that we actually gave the Charger team 2 times to do the challenge!!!! They stumbled on the start and the producers asked if we could give them another try, so we said ok, they ran it and as you saw bogged again, and thats when the whole peanut gallery came and asked us to give them a third shot!!!!!!!! Can you believe the audacity of these people, from day one they were all insulting us behind our backs and we give them two opportunities to do a challenge over and they still insult us in the end. Talk about being a sore loser. F those a-holes all of them! Not to mention at the wall challenge Mike pleaded with us not to throw him into a challenge that could damage his car and in return he promised he would not d!ck us over as well....we agreed and upheld our promise only to be back stabbed once again by that pant sh!tting Jim (my brother should have kicked his little girly a$$), when he threw us as a sacraficial lamb to the Lotus knowing full well that we had no brakes almost from day one of the rally!!! To compound matters (this part is not their fault) our powersteering ran dry during the challenge and so we had no brakes, the steering of an 18 wheeler, and the linkage on the shifter went south. So the only way you knew you were in the rgiht gear or any gear for that matter was by the RPMs, there was no tactile indication at the shifter and no visual indication at the shifter since we did not have the console installed; the shifter lever slid all over the place, it was a struggle.
How dare those rat b@stards in the Ford team say all that matters is how they feel when they put their heads on their pillows at night......I wonder how they felt when they ratted out two teams and then got the parts to fix their truck from production. When that went down my brother and I were on their side, we felt that the challenge was ill conceived and should not be so dangerous as to risk destruction of the cars or potentially kill someone. Their so called freinds, Team 9, was against them being able to do repairs.........nuff said.
Alsops, two out right liars, they should feel ashamed, its one thing to be quick on your toes its another to lie. Alsop manipulated all these guys from day one and they are still lining up to blow him even now.....pathetic. Texas team actually said to me that the things look the way they do because of the editing......yeah right, yes there is tons of editing, but they are not putting words in our mouths and they cant make us look like we did things that we didnt.
I calls it likes I sees it.
Go Team Olds!!!!
Bigblue73
05-09-2007, 08:18 AM
I thought for sure that the Alsops where going to give up the time bonus to the Charger. Think of the words that would have been said if that had happened. Golberg would have had a good old wrestling match on his hand.

I wondered about the steering issue, it wasnt mentioned in the episode but the title was "No brakes... no steering... no problem"
It is getting cut throat and the alsops have been playing dirty for a while but i guess that is just a part of it... i couldnt say that i blame team olds for not giving them a 2nd or 3rd shot, i mean the 1st half of the series was cars getting knocked out b/c of failures, by F-150s standards they should have been helping team Lambo replace a clutch or rebuilding a motor in the middle of the night for team Mustang, etc... so it would be "competitive"

great explaination rich. I hope mr.angry chimes in his parting shots
but I think we all know what to expect there.
I have to admit that I was also rooting for the mopar boys from the
beginning but after that last two episodes my respect for them has
bottomed out. they were nuts to expect another chance at the
challenge after they threw the first punch.
come on, if the tables were turned would mr.angry have given the
olds another run?
then team charger have the nerve to talk about karma for the olds.
team charger put themselves
it that position and have no one else to blame. in fact if blame was
to be placed it would fall on the pontiac for meliciously grapping the
only time bonus when they were already in first place.
so the liars and back stabbers are all in the open now but team olds
can hold their heads up high regardless of the outcome.

Well I guess that answers the question of if the hatchet is burried. LOL!
I did have a good chuckle when the team F-150 dude said it matters that he can lay his head down at night. I wonder if he thought about when he ratted team Lotus out to Goldberg about speeding. Pretty hypocritical to me.
Of course we didn't know about the second run, so I applaud team Olds for giving them a second chance.

Of course I've had a lot more time to think about this, but if I was Team Olds and the entire entourage came up to me with that offer...
1) I would immediately know that they were ALL against me.
2) I would agree to their plea IF they ALL ran the course twice, and posted their slowest time of the 2, while I get two runs and post my HIGHEST time. NOW lets see how much they want to help team Charger, hehe. Now I would have the chance to take the lead cars time heading in to the next leg.
But Naw, it went down as it should. I would have had to come down there and kick Team Old's azz's if they had bought in to that nonsence. Don't get me wrong, I was really pulling for team Charger, but you guys HAD to take advantage of the situation. The heat you took from "Florida" the previous week just made it that much easier to make the correct decision. I always tell my kids not to talk "smack" cuz' it's VERY likely to bite you in the azz one day.
I found it interesting that, though Trans-Am lied about the bonus, it actually ended up being the truth because there really WAS just one time bonus, LOL. I know Alsops is taking some heat for being "manipulative" but boy he's smart. He knows that valuable time is gained by fast cornering, hard braking, and quick accelaration. His car is clearly built for this type of driving, and his daughter is starting to recognize why you need to "drive the car" (in other words, "GET ON IT GIRL!!"). He knows that after this show, he's going back to his friends and family (perhaps much richer), so "tricking" other apponents is fair-game at this point in the competition. If he loses, I hope it's not because of ANOTHER police stop. That car is a total cop-magnet. F150 just cruises under the radar, LOL.
I'll be fine with any of the final three to win. Preference to Team Olds but Aslop is gonna be tough ;)

Beat us by 2 seconds, being that we had no brakes, that’s not beating us. We have a lighter car, more horsepower, real race tires, and a more advanced suspension, with both our cars running at 100% its no contest, we both know that. I gave your car tons of props, we love your car, everyone does, but c'mon, lets be real.
Yes 3 shots if not more.....did you forget when your car could not even make it up the ramp and it stalled out? Then one of the producers asked us off camera if you guys could restart??? Oh you did forget…….yeah thought so.
Mike I extended my hand to you and Jim after the rally and we left as friends. But I saw your video, you shot us down and gave us no credit when we did give you another chance even after back stabbing us, (did you forget our agreement at the wall challenge????) you guys insulted us and went against us after our agreement. Its not immaturity its accountability, its having integrity. This is the only thing that this demonstrates.
What people feel about me? Oh really? Tell me Mike what do people feel about me?
See up until your new video I did not blame you, thought of you as a friend, I was just a bit bitter at Jim's lack of integrity, but now I got it all put together, the no show at the local Bullrun party, only to be able to travel all the way to Indiana, and now the video that fails to tell the truth and then feel that the comported ourselves was uncalled for!!! Are you kidding me??? You, the TA team, and the Ford team, would have sent us packing and chopped up into pieces in a body bag if you could......even if we had not given you guys other restarts (that you are denying) at the challenge our actions are more than justified in light of the previous episode’s events. You know it, as does anyone else who saw what happened. I am unhappy with the deceit that my fellow NYer (and neighbor mind you) had towards us, and the fact that you reneged on our agreement and now the video just makes it all the worse...not good man, not good. Well what’s done is done.

As just a casual viewer of the show here's my .02 on the challenge. With the charger out Team Olds had to beat just the F-150. With no brakes they pushed it just enough to win. If the Charger only ran 2 seconds faster after fixing their car. I doubt that would have stood up to the Olds with proper brakes. But, like I said, I'm just a casual viewer of the show. Can't wait till the final next week.

Can you GIRLS stop fighting and just let us enjoy the show! Sorry you're out Mr. Angry, but you lost! It's a great car, but it let you down. I think the Olds guys have been given a hard time from the begining. I'm glad you guys made it through! I think the F150 guys are a-holes and want them gone! Team TA is just playing the game. Btw: if he was my dad I would have pulled him out of the car already and kicked his ass for being so completely f'ing annoying! I hate guys like that.

My word to both of you guys is that given the very competitive nature of Bullrun, both of you should have seen this coming! This competition did not create weaknesses in your relationships; it merely revealed them for all the world to see. I think that you guys had better be more careful with whom you share drinks. Merely my two cents.

I happen to know the truth as I know the truth. The no# 11 team did not give #01 team any slack nor did they have anything to do with the chances they were given so(BS). The #01 did do a run just to see what if and did it in 48 seconds.(didnt count never shown) The # 11 car recieved help from several teams including the #01, #10, #09, #03. The #09 team did mislead on the time bonus. The #04 team had an alliance with the #01 team. Team #10 clutch was ok. (wanted out) Team # 08 did and does dislike the #04 team.

Care to identify who you are, you know who I am so be a man (or woman) and reveal yourself? You are insulting my integrity so be a man and say who you are.
Team Charger DID run more than once, 3 times total (two of which were attempts at timed runs, and one which was for sh!ts and giggles). The Spike TV executive producer, head of the whole shebang, asked my brother and I if it was alright for them to run again after they stumbled immediatly upon leaving the box, they did not even make it up the entrance ramp....hence my brother's fasicious comments about how a Gremlin, Yugo, and Pinto made it up the ramp. Since the discussion happend between us and us alone you, whoever you are, would not know anything about this even if you were in production or Andy Duncan himself; since the executive is not micced (sp?), and so you are just spreading BS.
Bar1 cute...if this is Matt, you do know plenty, but not everything, and you are dead wrong about this. Whether our decision to allow the Charger to run a second time or not had any bareance I cannot know, the truth remains that we were asked if it was okay and we said yes, we could have opposed it and then they would have to deal with that and or compensate us in some way shape or form, since having a car last and run was in integral part of the whole competition. We did not have any say in the discounted run. Review the raw tapes and ye shall see.
Only can say this team #11 should be thankful for their longevity obviously they know I know by the reply that should validate the credibility. Doesnt matter who I am just please everyone enjoy the show. It is odd how people spin things so they can justify to themselves what happened. I think and know as their were 3 POV cameras in the car no less than 10 other cameras assigned to specific people and ALL TEAMS WERE attached with voice recorders the entire time. The conversation was on digital voice and it was a far cry from the information presented here that is the truth. In all all the teams were great people. ITS ONLY A GAME enjoy the last episode and good luck.

Agree on the "lost but not beaten" thing. I got no problem with the F-150 guys. Certainly not the coolest vehicle in the race, but they are playing the game to win and doing well.
Someone above asked for predictions. Here's mine:
a) I would think that the recent receipt of of $200k would soften any bitterness, so I don't think Andre Dice-Clay and his bro in the Olds won.
Which leaves the T/A and the F-150.
Both of the F-150 guys are going on the real Bullun. One with Mike in the Charger (I would love to be on that road-trip!) and the other with Morgan. Which suggests to me that they might have $100k each in their pockets and aren't worried about a week off of work. Mike Alsop is skipping the Bullrun to work.
So my guess is that the F-150 boys win, with the T/A in second and the Olds in third.
So Mike, (Mr. Angry) what was it that caused the Charger to stall? Carb? Ignition? Was it altitude/jetting related?

Please forgive my ignorance in advance, but I had a couple of Bullrun questions and this seems to be the place to ask.
1. With gas being an issue for some and not for others. Did the teams pay for their gas out of pocket or did Spike pay?
A fella could go broke goosing a Charger or a Cutlass over 4000 miles with today's gas prices.
2. Spike make the teams sign contracts restricting information on who got eliminated and obiviously who won before the episodes aired? If so, were/ are their penalties?
Yeah I know, dumb questions but I was curious.
My suggestion for next season. Bullrun needs more "Flags" :jump: and of course the girls to hold them.:naughty:

Mike.......I dont know if I should laugh or take out a hit out on you!
Ok, the Charger is awesome and Mike M. did great within that envelope, as to it being a superior performer than the Hurst, I have to strongly disagree. The Olds had nearly perfect weight ratio, lighter overall weight, lighter occupants, more HP and much more torque, real racing tires, more advanced suspension, a driver that has race training, and better aerodynamics in short its no contest. Hey we all fell in love witht the General Lee and I swear I will own one or a Daytona replica one day, but thats not to say that its the best car and unbeatable.
If you look at the garage challenge again look how much body roll there is when Mike makes the sharp turns, look how much less there is with the Olds, I am not making this up anyone can see that.
The challenge vs. the Lotus, we had no brakes, messed up shift linkage, and no power steering, otherwise we would have smoked him IMHO (of course this is debatable and only a re-test can decide this).
Fastest cars in the rally: Lambo and or the Olds. simply due to raw HP. We got to test the Olds handling against the Lambo, he could not shake us....it was scary and awesome at the same time sicne we were a foot away from a gaurd rail and sheer drop.
The favorite car universally was of course the Charger, even team Lambo wanted one.
Well my brother and Mike met up and shook hands last night, Mike's car looks awesome and he and Alabama Rich will be running the rally. I wish them the berst of luck regardless of how I feel about this weeks episode and what was said.
Oh and Mike A. for the record, they did ask us if he could run again off camera and we as we all now know said yes.
Cheers

Well I have been a long time watcher of both the show and this thread. Tivo it and saved all of the episodes! I was gunning for the Charger and Olds from the beginning, and now with the Charger out, its all up to team Olds to bring home the gold.
For the most part, us here in TV land are numb as to the real stories that happened. TV shows what they want for the ratings they want. So I applaud all of the teams for even being a part of this show and for having fun with it. Youve revved me up to get going on my projects just by watching the show. The Olds had nearly perfect weight ratio, lighter overall weight, lighter occupants, more HP and much more torque, real racing tires, more advanced suspension, a driver that has race training, and better aerodynamics in short its no contest. Hey we all fell in love witht the General Lee and I swear I will own one or a Daytona replica one day, but thats not to say that its the best car and unbeatable."
What do you have in that Hurst a stroked 455? I would be curious to hear what kind of combo you have as that Hurst really sounded strong during the show.
Do you have Baer or Wilwood brakes on it? Was is the weight of a Hurst Olds of that year?
I really like your wheel and tire combo on that Olds and I am digging the hood on it also. I hope you guys beat team F150!
As for the Alsops I am kinda undecided because on one hand I really like TA's but on the other hand you have her father trying to manipulate everyone to his or their advantage......I dont think his daughter agrees with everything he does though. I guess its a competition in the end
Good luck!

Another question for Rich. I looked through your car's profile on the SpikeTV website and you said nothing about what your suspension is. Being that there really aren't too many years between you and the Charger, what is this "highly advanced" setup you are running that is so superior??? Three link or IRS in the rear??? What have you done to the front end??? Anything to the suspension geometry???
Thanks,

Cheers

Mike was 3/1 in the challenges right?
In the one he lost he had a mechanical failure. You had mechanical problems as well that hurt you in a few challenges right? So it seems that the "superior vehicle" assertion is as yet undetermined.
If one is to be the best, one must beat the best right? To that end I hope that panty-waste Roger Clemens pitches to Bonds when the Giants and Yankees play this summer. He's pitched around him every time in the past. But I digress......

Moparguy, chime into my brother he has all the exact numbers.
But yes its a bored out 455 with head work compression was close to 11:1 McBetts racing built and dynoed it. Produced 550hp (548 I think was the exact number) on the dyno. During the rally we also had a 150 NOS shot.
Weight for those car were from 3500-3900lbs ours we figure in at about 3600-3700lbs.

Again these real detailed questions can only be answered by my bro, I help out, but they are his cars and he is the one that has done the majority of the work and along with his engine builders have made all the decisions. But I am nearly 100% positive that it has all forged internals, and bottom end girdle. "455"?
I believe you, but I could swear on Spike they listed your car as having a "425".
Which I kinda thought was cool because I had '69 Cutlass "S" that had a 10:1 "425" Rocket, out of a '67 Toronado, with "C" heads. Best running engine I've ever had to date. If I'm not mistaken the "425" was the only engine OLDS put a forged crank in (could be wrong). Sweet motor :headbang: . 455 is no slouch either.
Man I miss that car......sold it to a Baptist minister from Toledo....go figure.

The specs floating around out there are all mixed up because they took down the info to all our cars, since my brother has so many Olds and some have 350, 425 and 455, they mixed up the numbers. The car we originally wanted to bring had a high nickle 425; agreed one of the best GM engines ever.
But the Hurst is a 455.

Sounds like its probably a pretty stout combo! :usa: I am assuming that it has some aluminum heads given that compression ratio or else you would be dumping octane boost in it like crazy.
The 455 is a torque monster before even touching it.
1968-70 Charger weight usually falls in between 3600-3900 without driver so it sounds like the two might be close in weight.

The Olds is def one bad ride in my opinion. Who were all of the guys (Alsops, Team F-150, Team Charger) kidding when they started talking about laying there heads down at night. As mentioned earlier, Team F-150 sissed out and went running and tattle tailling. From what I have saw in the shows. The Olds is the only team with integrity going for them. I wasn't a fan favorite of the Trans Am, I hope they finish in the 1st loser spot. But I am a GM fan and give props to the car, but when they plain lied to team Olds, it all went sour for me. Team Olds all the way guys!

I geuss for me it is the little things. Like when they video taped the 2 teams speeding. Now the act of them doing it isn't as important here as when they lied about it right to the other teams faces, and then changed there story kinda and lied to the other team about not doing it at all. It just seems (now this is on TV I might add) that everytime they got on there walkie talkie they are bad mouthing others teams. I guess its the little things that did it for me! But like they always say "Different strokes for different folks!"

Well IMO they were perfectly justified in taping the other teams. They had time in the bag over those cars, they were doing a better job of navigating and getting better range with the fuel. The other teams broke the rules to close the gap that was built through hard work, prep and a bit of luck.
Should they have just let them break the rules and erase the advantage that they had built? If so, how many other rules should they have let other teams break to their detriment?
73novaguy
05-10-2007, 07:45 PM
Yes, very true. That is why it was not so much the action they performed, but the way they lied about what they did. Man up and tell the other teams straight up what went down. IMO, the other teams would have handled the situation better if they had not been lied to.
In all reality, it is not like I am saying I wish the Ford team drives off a burning bridge and plummets to there graves. I am just saying I wished the would have handle a few things better and that I am cheering on the Olds, then the Alsops, then the Ford!

The rules state you could speed up to pass. They did. The other teams didn't just blow by and keep on truckin, just passed and sat there. THe lying is what got me the most though. How to slide or "drift" rear end of LS1 F-body:
1). Turn off ASR
2). Stomp on the gas
3). Turn wheel simultaneously
Or, even easier -- pull e-brake
LOL.

Stock traction control on a 4th gen is useless for anything but driving in the rain, IMO. The first thing I did whenever I got in my car (as does nearly everyone I know with a 4th gen) is turn it off. If he did forget to turn it off, I can see why he couldn't get the car to slide.

Umm you are correct about the car sliding issue the car just hooked up. When I turned the wheel and pulled the e-brake the car didnt let go the anti-lock started pumping and whining and the car turned. The BMR suspension with the Qa1 shocks and the sticky Goodyear F-1's did what they were supposed to do. The second pass I tried to throttle thru the glass by sliding sideways under power and the traction control kicked in and there you go another turn. It was funny! I am confident in my ability to drive. Rich and Andre called me out and said that the Olds would kick the T/A's ass in a straight line drag race. I told him not possible. The charger with the bored 440 lined up against Morgan and he punched it on a roll we walked him not even close and they were worried about the Charger? What kind of ride do you have?

Or the fact that they were getting ready to pull all of the front brakes off of the vehicle because they were loosing brake fluid. Well they were claiming that because their was fluid on the inside of that rim it had to be leaking their. I told them no way I reminded them that they had rotated their tires and rims and the rim came from the right rear and helped them pull of the rear drum to expose the real culprit, the leaking brake cylinder to which I helped them with. The other cool thing is that BMR fabrication did some cool things for Team Trans AM. They helped us with parts for the suspension on the T/A after the show. I installed these parts and their Logos are all over the T/A for the real run that starts from Montreal in the morning headed to Boston. The new Torque arm and panhard tightened up the suspension even more what a great piece... So support those people at BMR. Texas speed helped with the fluids for the T/A and MADE did the sound and radar jammers. We will be posting if you all would like on this site during the real Bullrun !

As for my car, I sold my 96 Camaro SS and it was very modified you can see picks here I still have the site up. www.96z28ss.cz28.com (http://www.96z28ss.cz28.com)
It made 585rwhp when it was finally tuned on the chassis dyno.
I even had a distributor in it.
You'll also see that I had just about everything BMR Fabrication makes on my Camaro.
Now I have a 1969 Camaro twin turbo project.
If I still lived in Massachusetts I'd like to hook up with you and drink some beers.

There is some truth to what you say but you are mistaken about the challenge with the Charger, they did have 3 attempts. One official run, one failed official run that Tim then came over to us and asked if it was okay if team Charger re-ran since they stalled immediately out of the box (unable to even make it up the entrance ramp), to which we said yes, and finally the run just for fun.
Mike A. did try to help us with the brakes, but Mike you are mistaken also about this next thing, we NEVER purposely failed to respond to you, our Nextel may have been dead (happened more than once we had a short in at the cigarette lighter a few times due to the stupid Keno light), so you are mistaken there, and you know the walkies had very limited range, don’t know if you tried to get us that way. There is only one team that we pretended to not hear and intentionally ignored that was team Honda and only because Dirty Rice had promised to help us into California only to then ignore us, so we returned the favor (this was all captured on TV). However, remember we ended up helping you on that same leg to the air base. Remember getting into the base, Morgan asked which way to go, and we told you guys to follow us after we had lost the Charger by the docks (they did show that part on TV as well).
BTW trust me on this one Matt does not know all that happened on the show he and I had a few conversations that made that all too apparent to me after the show. Coupled with the bar1 I thought to myself, "has facts mixed up and ‘bar’ as name as in bar-association has to be Matt". He may or may not have known about our approval of team Charger's restart, but its non-issue, I am just not happy about them reneging on our agreement, then bad mouthing us and forming an alliance and conspiring to get us eliminated with someone else when we are neighbors, and after all we were more than fair with them.
We cannot make it to Boston; we have prior commitments. Have a blast!
Forum, we all thank you guys for all the support and interest, all said and done this thing was insane and a blast.....I would do it again in a second (but I would not trust any red Trans-Ams or Black Chargers! :naughty:)

Well I finally had a chance to watch episode 9. Wow I agree with whoever called it a nail biter!
What a lame way for the Charger to go out but sounds like the float thing may have been acting up for a while because I still don't buy the exhaust leak thing.
Really cool to have 3 of the teams posting on here too! It's cool to hear that Mike Alsop was helping work on or give sound mechanical advice to the other teams. I too thought he might give the time bonus to the Charger team. Really if Mike hadn't gone for that bonus the show made it look like the Charger would of beaten the olds to it.
Finally, what did the Charger run in the off the record attempt at the road course? I first read comments only 2 seconds faster than the Olds and then that it was 45 or 48 seconds?
Rock on guys and I hope either the Olds or Trans Am team wins the $200K but I have a bad feeling about the Ford guys. My dislike of that team is simply that it is a stock truck. I wish the show allowed for more emphasis placed on driving skills.

I guess people are all over her their. CRAZY! She will wind up in Boston this evening for a party hosted by girls gone wild. If you are anywhere around their this evening I will be flying in to meet her and head out to the next destination with her. Stay tuned. We will be updating the whereabouts.

Welcome aboard Mike A, sounds like you guys did well on the show. I used to have a 4th gen LT1 T/A as well, it was a fun ride. What mods to the LS1 do you have? Seemed like a cam, exhaust and tune?
Mike M. I don't care what anybody says, that Charger is just plain badass, when you guys got booted and turned on the HID's it looked sinister. Have you thought about converting to EFI after the show?
Rich good luck to you guys as well. I think it would be cool to line up the cars at say an auto-x or 1/4 mile to see what they can really do against eachother.
Is it me or are the specs on the cars all wrong? The F-150 has 400hp and a 3" lift? Seemed stock to me.

just in the airport now headed for Boston I will arrive and meet my daughter at the party I think it is called felt. Any way she just completed the Montreal to Boston run in the 02 WS6 she was 10 sec out of first place. I am proud of the fact that she accomplished this. Very cool..... as for the girls gone wild video she better only be found in the crowd. NOT A PARTICIPANT!!!
