This thread will follow my 1970, 460 powered pro touring maverick ,so far i have inatalled a mustang two front end the 460 motor and c6 transmission is mocked up engine mounts are made, i have not yet decided if i will stay with the auto or change to a 5 speed ???? the motor as it sits puts out 600 hp and 545 ft lbs of touque it is however going to be freshend up when i pull it out to finish and paint the engine bay i will swap to aluminium heads for weight savings...the rear end is a ford 9 inch with 4.11 gears as of now..here are some pics

The wheels on the car in the pic are american racing Hopsters 15 x 6 on front and 16x 8 on rear, i picked up my new rims custom made Hopsters 17x 11 with a 4 and 1/4 inch back space, tyres are 315x 35x17 for the rear, i will be mini tubbing it and after searching the archives here in this web i am going to install a triangulated 4 link with coil overs .

aussie, i love mavericks, would build one after my duster if i could find a decent one. I do have to ask at the risk of offending you, why would you drop a big block in a maverick and then think it will corner and stop. that is alot of weight on the front end , i would believe it will be an understeering S.O.B. Do not get me wrong your car is cool and i love mavericks, i'm not beating you up, just cant see it turning. I would think i well sorted smallblock would run away from it everywhere but a straight line or dragstrip. just my .02 good luck and build away brother. Dan

Dan i know of a guy who weighed a 351w and compared it to a 460 bb with aluminium heads and intake it only weighed 17lbs more and as for turning if a camaro with a big block in it can carve up the corners i do not see why mine cant i am going to try and as for a BB ford i wanted the wow factor when you lift the hood .The car will only see street miles so i am not to worried but if they build a road course near me (Long Island NY) i will certianly try it out. Thanks Barry

I have a question i hope someone can answer if i stay with an automatic does ford make a overdrive transmission that would handle up to 700hp and 600 ft lbs of torque...other wise i might have to run a gear venders overdrive unit and it costs $2800.00 alone.....

these guys can build an AOD that will live behind a 1400hp engine so i'm guessing they could build you one for the 460 with no problem at all. they also have bellhousing to adapt the AOD to the 460 as well

Nice project, I need you to write me a build book for your car. I need to read & learn more from you. That would include welding. I new I could fit a 315 on the back of my car. My backspacing must not be right. I have 295's & I also had to get a mini tube to fit them. The 460 is a very WTF factor.

Cool Project!!
We are doing one for Comet Chicks dad that will fit 335's on the back, relocated the rear frame rails in about 4"s on each side.
Keep us posted.

No we used the stock frame rails cut them loose from the inner wheel tub an the trunk floor on both sides then moved them in about 4" cut about 8" out of the center of the trunk pan welded it back together.
Then you pick your rear suspension, cut the rear end to the desired length.
Hope this helps

I have enough room to just cut the inner wheel house back to the frame rail, and if i wanted i could reuse my leaf springs but i am going with an Art Morrison triangulated 4 link set up..

That would be great. I will look for that when you get around to it. I want to go with 335's now since I know it can be down. I really need to learn how to weld before I tackle a job that big. I had to pay someone to do the mini tubing for me & it didn't look hard but I cant weld so I couldn't do it. Thanks for the helping hand.
