Looking for brakes for 77 TA 15" wheels

I'm ready to start putting my car back together and i need to know which way to go on brakes. I've got sc&c uppers, global west lowers and hal coil overs. What is the best brake i can put on the car that will clear the 15x8 snowflakes? Also is there a low $$ way to improve the brakes. I might do that then upgrade to a better kit later.

      THANKS

      Jack

Low $ find some 12" rotor spindles from a B body. redrill the B body rotors or convert 12" 1LE third gen rotors from metric studs. Find a 79-81TA rear disc rear.

B bodies(Impala, Bonnevilleetc) use the same basic spindle as second Gen F bodies(Camaro/Firebird). They had 11" brake versions like the F bodies, and a 12" rotor for HD brakes on wagons and the like. B bodies used a 15" steel wheel for these, so they should work for most 15" wheels. Depending on the year of the spindle it may take a different tie rod end. The same caliper is used the spindle just moves it out further fro the 12" version.

B bodies use a 5" diameter bolt pattern on the wheels, F bodies a 4.75. So you can have a shop redrill the cheaper B body rotors to fit your wheels or use the rarer third Gen Camaro 12" rotor from the 1LE option(a road race option with bigger brakes aluminum driveshaft and some other things for SHowroom Stock, and later A Sedan). The third gen Camaros do use a metric stud, 12.5 I believe. You can use metric lug nuts or convert those rotors to 7/16" like your TA has. There are not exact metric lug nuts like the snowflakes use but you can use a mag lug nut and a washer and they look close to the factory lugnut.

Wagner 1LE rotors are $30 each form Rockauto. Look up 1990 IROC. They do have metric studs. So either change the studs or change the nuts. I think you'll need A6 inner bearings and A3 outers.

A lot of guys seem to move to the bigger D61 pads instead of the stock D52 pad. Sometimes they fit in the Camaro caliper, sometimes they don't. If they don't, it appears people use mid 70s Chevy Van calipers, which are just wider.

This has been really beaten over at NastyZ28.com. Search there.

Edit: Also discussed about 10 threads down.

Nice 77 Z28! Dont see those much. will the b-body spindles change the geometry of the front suspension? I think I read somewhere that it might?? Sorry to beat a dead horse i just didn't know about nastyZ28.com and that other post mentions the b-body swap but not in detail.

      THANKS!!!

They only change the geometry on A bodies(Chevelles, GTOs, 442s).

Ont thing to watch with the spindles about 77-78 the bearing size was changed even on the 11" rotors.

Man those rotors have come down. When I bought mine only GM had them! about $100 a copy.

To change the studs you have to use a different 7/16 than normal as the 12.5mm is already larger than the standard knurl.

Here, I just remembered I started putting notes together on this. Why I forgot this earlier is beyond me.

Search "1LE" at nastyz28. All sorts of threads come up.
      Oh, and thanks Mr Bandit.
