      Mounting guages

Help with fitting 5 inch autometer phantom guages in 1967 dash. What the best way to mount them? Do you have to modify the dash pods or the guages?

Do a search on "5 inch autometer" in the interior forum. I posted some pics I found of others that mounted 5" gauges in a stock dash housing. I didn't have much luck getting the dash lights how I wanted them so I switched to a Covan blank dash and mounted the 5" gauges there.

I used 5" ID PVC (d)rain pipe which I glued to the rear of the original mounting pods. The 5" gauges slide in tightly, but it's better when you make a cut in the pipe and place a clamp around it which you tighten once the gauges are in.

I did neither modification. I had then sitting in place where I wanted them then I taped them in place. Double checked their positioning and then made my own little brackets.

I took 1/8" metal cut some strips out of it, used some pliars to make a small "U" on one end, ran it along the gauge and then to one of the factory holes in the back of the instrument panel and tighted with the factory bolts...

There are completed photos on my site:

      Good luck!!

Thanks for all of your input, it all helped. I was sitting down at my bench and staring at the pod and the guages, when it hit me. I used the stock metal bezal and just cut it to 5 inch opening, sliding the guages into it then it to the stock holes. I had to use longer screws. I will try and post pictures because it looks awesome and was easy. Thanks David

      gauges

Take a look at these. The VDO vision gauges are my personal favorite and beat most of the others in quality hands down.

      Plus some other stuff.

Thanks for your info but I already have the guages, Autometer Phantom Series. You are right about the VDO Vision, I have them in another car and they are very nice.
