Has anyone done a 4th gen dash in a 67-68 Camaro?

ive seen a ton of 69s and such but i was wondering..

i am concidering doing it so id like to know how involved it is.
seeming like the 67s have less muckery to wire up.

      anyone have some insight?

Same thing. Since the new dash is what you wire up you lose any idea of "simplicity" from the 67-68 dashes.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

I know a bunch of guys have done this but I think its seriously lame. Fourth gen F-bodies were no luxury cars and the most ridiculed aspect of them was the interiors. Materials are waay sub-par and the design isn't really even stylish. Look around at some custom interiors for ideas, I think you could do way better. Just my .02

I put a 4th gen dash and counsel in my 67. It causes a few problems, 1st you cant roll the windows down with the doors shut the crank hits the dash. Solution switch to power windows but this will cost you around $400 for just the front. 2nd problem again the windows you cant open the vent windows with the doors shut. This is a very hard mod to do with the windshield in.

The only way you can do this is to cut out the entire original dash. I haven’t done any thing with the wiring yet my school schedule only allows me to work on the car in the summer. I have the entire body and engine wiring harnesses from a 99 firebird so it should be pretty much plug and play since I am running an ls1 The only thing I have found different between the fire bird and camaro wiring is the position of the fog light switch.

I put the 4th gen dash and all the wiring when I put in the LS1. It will take a lot of time to design it in a way that works for you. My dash sits back a lot further than B-Schein's. I still have to use power windows but the vent windows are fine. I love the look of it in the car and having all the modern conveniences just makes it that much more fun to drive. Their are a few more pictures in my PT garage and F-Quick page. If I can help, feel free to let me know. I have loots of pictures and can send you any measurements you want.

Whoa didnt mean to upset anyone. Of course its your car and you should build it how you want it. Im not knocking fourth gen f-bodies; actually I own one. Amazing performance for the money and the interior is alright just nothing really inspiring. I like it well enough but in my opinion not worth the work of swapping it into another car. I think its "sub par" compared to most more recently designed cars or any custom dash that could be built with comparable effort to the swap. Just explaining myself.....As far as you driving until I get my permit....that doesn't even make any sense...

nah noone got mad at all.. i was mearly stating.

"when you get your permit"-- translation "when you can drive/own MY car" in other words.. "hey, its my ride.. let me ask what i want to know from people who care and have done it themselves, because maybe.. just maybe... i like the way a 4th gen interior looks."

other than that.. no hard feelings, slick.

      thank you.

I like it. I neveer been a fan of the old school interior guages, controls etc....

If you can get all the 4th gen stuff to work, the car will be a better commuter.

I'm going to do just what youre doing but all the wriring of the camaro will be in the car alsong witht he camaro radio etc..

I like new technology like the next guy. But I would never put a late model dash in a 1st gen. I love the standard interiors. I just don't think new stuff has any personality. That is what make this hobby great you get to make your car how you want it.

I have more of a hybrid setup in my 68. Stock dash, but then changed it to more modern equipment. I added the Auto Meter gauges to stock location, and then removed the factory radio and heater and changed that piece to house 5 gauges, and a radio. I then added a center console from a couple cars and molded it together covered it it vinyl, added Classic Air, power windows, power locks, heated seats..... It's a perfect mix for me, classic looks with modern equipment....

Not a problem on a 67, the tag is on the fire wall. I did not use the part of the 99 dash that had the cutout for the Vin #.
