building a Pontiac 455 that i would like to put megasquirt EFI onto. i would like to control ignition off the crank, and am considering distributorless, using the EDIS.
has anyone put a 36-1 wheel on a Pontiac? where are they available, or who can make one?
who has done crank triggered EFI on a Pontiac?
thanks,
Scott.

I converted my Pontiac 462 to EFI but went with a different ECU unit that allowed the use of a dual sync distributor.
MSD makes a crank trigger for the Pontiac. If the same works on a Chevy, it should work for you.

Monkey, any luck sourcing a wheel?

These guys sell one, but I'm not sure if it will fit. http://home.earthlink.net/~beanbooger/boost_engineering/
They have specific dimensions listed on it, and I'm going to bring the dimensions into my builder next week to have a wheel trigger discussion. It's time to figure out the solution. The top end is getting assembled now, and I'll be ready to start tying together loose ends. I suspect we'll have to measure the preferred wheel size and have it custom made.
My other hanging chad is coming up with a solution for the plenum. I think I want to use an LS1 TB, but have not purchased a TB yet, so that's not for certain. Do you know of anyone selling custom type plenums that mount on a carb type manifold?
Where did you mount your wheel sensor? I think I want to fab something off of the fuel pump mounting holes.
Thanks, Scott.

I think for wasted spark arrangement, I need the missing tooth type wheel with VR sensor.

I was going to fab an aluminum plate using the two pass. side bolts on the timing cover...actually the bolt and stud.
I haven't touched it yet, as I am working on brakes at the moment, front and rear.

You need to look at Allpontiac.com or Butler Performance or Kauffman Racing. Maybe even BOP engineering. One of those outfits should be able to put you on the trail of what you are looking for. I don't think the Chevy outfit will work on a Poncho, but these guys will be able to find you what you need.
I recently installed MSII on my 427 Chevy engine using the EDIS ignition. I have an AutoCAD drawing of the trigger wheel, and a buddy wire EDM'd it out for me. I then made a bracket for the sensor that mounts to the front of the engine. I have the AutoCAD drawing if you would like it. You can change it to fit your installation. I set it up so it uses the 3 pulley bolts. It wasn't the easiest, but it was necessary. Also, Auto-nomics.com sells a throttle body that fits in place of a Holley or Q-Jet pattern for about $135. They will also add an idle air stepper motor and TPS sensor. Very good guy, and I am also happy with the products.

I am currently adding the 36-1 wheel to my 512" BB Mopar... I know you're running a Pontiac but my set up I managed to have the inside diamiter of the 36-1 wheel machined out so it will fit on my crank pulley... I will then TIG weld the wheel in the correct position to get the correct timing.... I'll snap some pics as i do this - again just to give you an idea or two

While I think the tb above is a good value, I personally believe they are too small for the big inch engines that make power past 5000 rpm.

I just checked Auto-nomics site, and the throttle body is actually only $75. It is 750 CFM, and they will bore it to over 1000 CFM. I don't know the fee, but I'm sure it's reasonable. That should be enough for most people.

I had what you're looking for....
Used the FAST EFI and MSD stuff.

It is for this reason I had the wheels made to this size. I can cut the center out on a lathe and weld a 7" A/C pulley to it.

BB69, what'd you do to plug the injector holes in the TB?
i dealt with bruce recently; very satisfying and good to work with.
i bought two; i'm doing a port crossram for a poncho.
on that note, hi karch!
his prices have gone up some, btw.
the TB's have a large step in the bores that clearly limits flow; there's a ton of meat that could come out.
not a criticism, just making it clear; they'd be cake to bore out.
he also offers sleeves to knock the flow back if desired.

Mike- i thought autonomics sold plugs to fit into the TBs?
are you going to have a missing tooth crank trigger? if you are, we should think about both doing it at the same time because i think it's going to be a custom deal and i have not had it done yet. still waiting to get motor back from machinist, so i have not measured up how to have a wheel cut yet. if you found a non-custom wheel, please let me know.
by the way, i'm pretty sure i'm going to go with DIS EDIS wasted spark. you're top end is pretty wicked already, imagine no distributor... you decided to put injectors under the ports yes?
Scott.

scott, yup, AN does sell injector plugs; i didnt buy them, however.
i'm triggering off an msd distributor pickup; not using a crank trigger.
i'm reinstalling air conditioning; didnt want to **** around with it.
but there's a fella or 2 on PY using crank wheels; one guy made a few to re-sell, but i don't recall who.
yes, after skip hassled me for weeks, i decided to consider putting them underneath, and it turned out to be a good move; i got each squirter aimed and located better then i could have on top.

Hey there Mike...how's it going?
I might make a move and buy a Victor EFI intake this month, if I can get the deal I am expecting.
I may have to unload the spare 455 short block I've been hoarding :(

I used Autonomic's plugs. They fit and seal very well.

G-D, ain't that the truth. I am being told that I am really putting my Mrs. out by having my car taking up the garage because I haven't finished the brake switchover yet!
Sorry dear, I have to take the boy to school, work all day, clean the dishes, help put the kids to bed, and try to watch the Master's on tivo because that's all the golf I get (I used to shoot in the mid 70's when I played once a week) because of all the chores, work, kid's birthday parties, shopping idiot, more chores, etc I have to do instead of crawling under the car and try to get the thing to stop before I plow into a $90K Benz in this stupid town where nobody has any sense of doing anything right, let alone being a self-thinker who can actually think of anyone but themselves.
:machine:
Glad to hear you are doing well.
