Gear Setup Questions

[70RT/SE]

I am putting a new power lok posi and a used gear set in a dana 60.
I have a spot where gear runout is .005. The pattern looks ok ....drive side looks good , coast side is a little high. The pattern on the spot where the runout occurs is high on both sides.

How do I get rid of the runout? When I installed the ring gear I soaked it in hot water and torqed to specs. Also made sure that all the surfaces were clean.

You can try to remove the ring gear and rotate it 180* and see where it goes. What brand is the gear set and where you the one that removed it?

By runout you mean youve got .005 backlash in one spot? (which makes runout
Did the ring gear fall on after heated?
If it did not fall on then you pulled metal under it as you bolted it together ..
Take it back off file it flat and the carrier as well to remove any burrs reheat it and try again this time use gloves and pull it up tight, take 2 bolts and finger tighten them.. then use loctite on the rest and tourqe them remove the 2 installed prev and loctite them and tourqe.

I would remove the ring gear and set up the dial indicator on the gear mounting flange to see if it is the problem or the gear. There might be a burr on the flange from manufacturing, or the ring gear might be bad. You can also try turning it 180 like MrQuick said.
