View Full Version : Foglight Chop Opinion Wanted...

Hey all,
I'd like to add some foglights to the front of my '88 SS to aid my vision during those spirited night driving adventures. I've seen guys mount them behind the grill opening, and I've seen one car where the owner swapped in smaller turnsignals and mounted some rectangle-shaped lights next to them in the opening. I came up with this chop, a'la '69 Camaro. I'd flush-mount the lights in the fascia, and install the brackets on the inner bumper support to keep them still. What do you think?

I like the idea but think that rectangular lights in the same position would match the lines of the front end better. Look at everything, rectangular. The big rounds would look out of place. The placement looks good though.

looks cool but I would try some rectangles just to see what they look like. What about somthing like this, you could use the stock grill insert in the bottom to match. Just a thought, I know it's alot of work...

I actually like the round lights. I think it really modernizes the front end. They remind me of a 4th gen trans am. Integrate them well and they'll look great!

That's kind of what I was thinking. Granted, they have rectangle headlights that pop up, but it's still the same look at night - rectangle up top, and round on the bottom. And Chromaholic, I like that idea. I might be able to just paint that bottom portion in satin black to match the lower part of the fascia.

I like it too, but they're too close to the license plate. If you moved them closer to the turn signals I think it would look better.

I think that would look great, but as Allen also noted, position them closer to the turn signals. I would locate them about 3/4 - 1" farther to the outsides of the car then where you have them currently.

OK guys, here's a new version. I shrunk the lights a bit, and fixed the size of the license plate; it was too small in the original. I also moved the lights so that they're almost centered between the turnsignal openings and the front plate. How's it look now?

Looks better. If they are not centered, keep them closer to the turn signals.

Looks good, I like it. I disagree on keeping them closer to the turn signals, it will look too cluttered. An inch or two away from the license plate is where it's at, IMO.

I personally think it looks pretty good how you have it right now. I thought the rectangle lights would look better too, but the round ones grew on me pretty fast. I'd go for it like it is! Looks good man!

Maybe I am just lazy or something, but if you want more light at night, wouldn't it be a lot easier to simply install brighter headlights? If you just want to be different, I like the look of the round lights centered between the signals and the license plate.

I like them but I don't like them with an all white front fascia. Go with the satin black finish on the bottom and it gives it the illusion of having its own fascia I think. Sort of like its own grill or bumper to mount to. I say go for it.

Thanks for the all the responses guys! OK, here's one more, just to confuse things even more. I chopped in some rectangular lights for this one. How about this? Keep in mind, they will be mounted from the back, so the only thing you'll see is the light itself, flush with the fascia.

I like the rectangular better.

Well thanks for screwing with my head on this one. I like my first choice but try the satin black on the bottom with the rectangular lights now. I think that would be it right there.

I still think I like the rounds better...but just my opinion!

Hmmmm, the rectangular lights do look good...
I'm not sure though, I think the round lights provide more differentiaton

Personally, I would modify the factory turn signal/park lights to accept some cool rectangle lights. If you want it to look different, maybe flush mount them or something.

I like the rounds better, but going off of the t/a can you find a junk t/a front facia cut out the light openings that recess them back and mold it in? I think it would give it more of a finished look instead of looking like you just cut holes.
