I'm buying a 1946 Chevy Truck, and it has a nice color scheme. My problem is it has a few small areas with problems that I want to get touched up. I don't want to spring to have the whole truck repainted, plus even if I did, I would want it the same colors again.

Is there any way the paint color can be scanned and the color and number can be derived from this. I was told the colors are Cheverolet Colors from about 17 years ago.

The owner that had the truck originally painted, got a divorce and moved away. He has a popular name that is hard to track. It's Jim Baird. I found over 100 on a search, with no assurance any are him.

I was told the truck appeared in a magazine called "Pickups and Panel Trucks". To date no one has heard of it!!HELP!

Try going to your local PPG Paint dealer and looking threw the chip books at the chevy colors. You will most likely find them there. After that you can get small amounts mixed up to test out if there are a couple different shades of the color. You should find it

Find a paint mixing place or body shop that has a machine called dupont chromovision. It is basicly a camera that you take a close up picture of the car from 3 different angles. You can plug it back into the computer and it will search for the closest match to mix taking in account fading even.
