Has anyone ever tried to mount a 5" tach & speedo in one of Covan Classics blank dash panels for a 67/67 Camaro/Firebird?? If so can you send any pics or template you used to measure the holes to cut ?? Covan says they will fit but either I really suck at measuring or they don't actually fit.
Thanks

I took this picture at a Power Tour stop a few years ago.

Thanks for the pics. At least I can see they fit. Now if I can only get my templates right :(. But I think I found my answer this afternoon. Will try once I get home.

They used to have the dimensions on the website for the dash for the 67-8s but not anymore. Doyou know the width of the area for the gauges? I need 10.2 in. and wonder if it is htere?
Thanks , Jim Nilsen

I was finally able to get this figured out. I used power point to make a template, marked the center of each circle. Then used a small dremel cut wheel to get a rough circle cut. Then used a barrel disc on my dremel to fine tune the holes. Fit nice and snug. Only real issue I ended up having was my tach is set up for a 3 3/8" hole normally. But this would make it sit about an inch above the speedo. So I contacted AUto Meter and they said I could also cut a 4 5/8" hole like my speedo but would need to make a new mounting bracket which was a piec of cake. I'll try and post some pics this eve. I can also try and post the powerpoint template I used to cut my holes.
One thing I failed to notice initially is that the sides of the Covan dash angle out away from the gauges. This gives a little extra room since the widest part of my gauges was about 3/4" above the base of the gauge.

Here is the template I used. And a cpl of pics of my new dash setup. I'll explain how it is set up. On the left is my tach, autometer 4994, right is speedo, autometer 4995. The outside circle on each is the 5" overall size. The next circle, green, is the 4 5/8" cutout. The red for the tach is the 3 3/8" cutout for the tach. The black dots are the center of each overall circle.
The tach was originally designed for a 3 3/8" cut out. But you can use the 4 5/8" cutout but will need to make your own bracket to retain the gauge. By using the 4 5/8" cut out my tach and speedo sit at the same level in the dash.
I had to convert the template to a jpeg image since I couldn't upload it as a powerpoint. If you want the real powerpoint file let me know and I can email it to you.

Hmmm, I wonder if there would be room for a 5" tach, a small speedo and two small gauges?

Download my template and overlay the new gauges over the old. Also, here is a pic of a 6 gauge setup from Covan. The speedo/tach are 3 3/8 and the other gauges are 2 1/16. Gives you an idea of how much room you have.

Somewhere on this site is a template for the setup in that photo from Covans. Gotta find that thing.
