I just talked to a guy who had on his "70: rear - 17x11.5" w/ 5" BS - 315/35 and front - 17x9.5" w/4" BS - 275/40. He had Hotchkis front and rear springs with NO work to the wells or lips. He said it never scrubbed even under hard cornering. The car just sold on Ebay #170039039513.

Having owned a 70 Camaro with big wheels/tires, I don't believe those numbers...

I ran 11" wheels with a 315 tire on the rear, and I used 5.75" of bs on the drivers side and 6.25" (with a 3/16" spacer to reduce that back to just over 6") on the pass. side. I still had slight rubbing on the driver's side, both on the inner wheel well and on the fender lip.

Looking at those pictures, I simply don't believe that those were 5" of BS UNLESS he had a narrowed rear end...

On the front of my car, I used 5.75" of bs also with a 9.5" wheel and a 275 tire. I was using the Martz subframe though, but it was supposed to have the same hub-to-hub width as the stock subframe did. Looking at his pics again, the fronts stick out slightly further than mine did. Also, that car is LOW, especially for now having an engine! I can't imagine that those front's didn't rub...... I didn't have any front rubbing problems unless I lowered the front springs (coilovers) too low.

I have various pics on my website at:

There are some older pics with a 10" wheel on the rear, but the newer pics are the 11" wheel. You can tell which are which I think.

I find it EXTREMELY difficult to believe that those wheels don't rub...Those BS numbers are way low for what most people run.

That's what I thought. I haven't seen below 5.5" for the rear.

On my firebird, which has a little more room because of wheelwell shape, I run a 17x11 with 6" bs and the tires rub slightly on the shocks in hard cornering. So I call bs as well, with an 11.5 wheel at 5" bs the wheel and tire would run into the outer wheel well lip.

well those numbers are unbelievable. My 72 camaro was lowered, and I put 17x8, 4" bs with 245/45 tires. I was not able to drive the car at all; the fender lip was setting on the tire because the wheel was sticking out..

I had to get different wheels with 4.5" backspacing, also I had to raise the front back to stock height in order to avoid rubbing the fender lip.

Like some of you mentioned, that camaro on ebay looked too low without the engine being installed. I wonder how lower it would get when the engine is put in..Looking at the front wheels, they are sticking out already.

The numbers are just unrealistic..
