TIG vs. MIG?

OK I read tons of car mags and books and they all consistently use other a TIG or MIG welder. Most swear by the Lincoln brand. I just read the Build Book for the Rad Rides by Troy Sick Fish Barracuda. They swear by the TIG with the controlled arc.
What's the difference between the two types, what do you guys prefer or use and why? I would imagine those who've used both kinds could best answer this.

A simple search "tig mig" yielded 59 threads, several of which would probably be useful to you.

Thanks JP, I may be new to this forum but have done many searches in many forums. I did do a search for tig mig before I posted this and what came up mostly compared migs to migs and tigs to tigs. I'll try again and look further. Thanks
