I have be blocking a '69 Camaro for the last 2 days and I hurt. I have painted a few cars but don't do it for a living. Those that do this all day every day I have a new appreciation for. I use to use spay bomb for a guide coat until this car and decided to try 3M's dry guide coat. Not cheap but worth every penny. Making my job alot easier. One question, how long on average do you take to block a car out? This car is fairly straight, and I will have spent around 40 hours on blocking alone and nearly 100 hours to to put it through 2 colors and clear. Just wondering what industry average might be for a very nice show/driver without panel repair or replacement.

After the sheetmetal and filler work are done and primed, 200 hours to paint, + sand and buff, 24 to 36 hours. I will be curious how close you come.

And yes, I have felt like my arm was going to fall off many mornings. Were doing a Road Runner right now. LONG SOB!

This car won't be perfect by any means as he don't want to spend the hours to make the gaps pefect or some other details that could easily add another 100 + hours to the job. My main concern is to get the car as straight as possible so when you look down the car it looks straight.

Make sure you are blocking it out with PSA (sticky) paper. The clip in style will suck into the low spots and sand out your guide coat making you think you blocked it flat. You will of course need the proper file boards to use the PSA paper.

I don't really count the hours I just block it until it's perfect. Last week I blocked out a fiberglass hood for a fellow employee I spent probably 12 hrs. on it. The look on his face when he saw the finished product was priceless. The owner came and looked at it and told the boss from now on his so called self proclaimed expert (that told me I was doing it wrong) was not to touch his cars anymore. :)

'72 442 "Inamorata"Hutchins speed file with 3m sticky paper. Occasionally an air board file when I had a lot of material to remove. Should be repriming and blocking with 400 later today.
