Thought I would post the progress on my 73 RS

I just finished painting the car about 3 weeks ago. It is painted BMW Titanium Silver with Black stripes. It was a factory silver car with black interior so I thought I would keep it close to original.

Just finished the motor & trans and got it installed today.

Specs on the motor are:
350 + .030 4-bolt block
GM Steel Crank
Wiseco pistons w/anti friction coated skirts, thermal coated domes & tapered pins
Scat H beam rods
Balanced @ 1811g bob weight
Edelbrock Perf RPM heads w/ 7/16 studs
Crane Variable ratio gold rockers
Perf RPM Int.
Comp XE262H cam

Plan on C5 front, LS1 rear brakes
175# 2” drop rear springs
650# front springs w/ AFCO adjusters
Bilstien shocks
I will leave the factory F41 suspension F & R sway bars

If all goes well I should make the Green flag track day at Buttonwillow in November.

I have a lot of pictures but they were taken during the bodywork/paint stage. I have not rolled the car out to take pictures yet. If all goes well I should have the front clip installed next week, I will get more pics then

A little progress. It's already been painted. You are down to install only.
Piece of cake. I like the colors. Keep up the good work.

looks good, nice to see the factory AC (considering most guys ripped them out over the years). I should be posting shots of my brother's '70 RS up here soon.

Well, here is another pic of the underside of the car. The thing is you can spend a ton of hours doing the grunt work (cleaning off 30+ years of grime) and it does not look like you are making much progress.

I got the under side cleaned up and painted, rear susp. and rear end pulled and exhaust hung. I also got the motor wiring all finalized.

I put a flowmaster exh system on the car, and I have to admit they have a well fitting system. I have come to expect that "kits" don't really fit, they are a short cut for complete custom fabrication. This kit or system FIT. With a little cutting and welding it went in perfect, I would recommend it if you like the flowmaster sound.

Not too exciting but here you go.

And Dave H., don't for get to bring the roller next week so we can get the dynamat installed.

Finally got some more part in and thought I would post some more pics.

Got the front C5 and rear LS1 brakes installed
GW Del-A-Lum LCA bushing and BJs installed
Just got the Pole position UCAs in and installed the springs and shocks.
Got the tires mounted on the Billet Specialites Qualifer wheels

Waiting on a couple more part, then should be hanging sheet metal

Nice Car, I love the color as well.

What master cylinder are you planning on using with the C5/LS1 brake combo? Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much is the brake setup running you so far? I'd love to do that to my 71 as well.

Thanks!

Dave, Very NICE! How expensive was it to go to the C5/LS1 brake combo? Excellent color combo, too!:6gears:

It does not take a ton on money to install the C5/LS1 set up if you search around for some deals.

On the rears I am not sure exactly how much I have invested because I had a lot of the part for some time now and can’t remember what I paid for them. To do it right, you will need 2 left backing plates and 2 left calipers. I use the factory parking brake cables and modify them to work. If you bought the parts through GM parts direct you might have $500 less rotors in all new parts. If you searched on ebay for deals on calipers you could do it for less.

On the fronts, I machined a 3rd gen Camaro rotor into a hub, used a set of low mileage calipers from a C5, local auto parts rotors, brackets and hoses from Kore3. Even with new calipers you should be able to do the set up for $500 with a little work and fabrication.

It’s all the little stuff that costs, like replacing ball joints, bushings, bearing, seals, and all the other stuff you see worn out when you have the thing apart.

Thanks for the info! Looking forward to see your progress. I've been in love with 2nd gens for many years. My 1st was a 73 Z28 (wish I still had it) and the one I have now is a 70 SS. They not only look great, but are a great platform.:6gears:
