How long to replace one rear frame rail small portion of floorpan?

As one of my winter projects I thinking about replacing the drivers side rear frame rail and the passenger side floorpan in front of the seat.

The floorpans of the car have been mediablasted so I am not concerned with finding additional things that need to be replace if I farm it out, but what would be considered a reasonable estimate (# of hours) to have this work done (not including parts)?



I can weld, but I don't have a welder and with work, two kids, etc. it will take me some time to do this, laying on my soon to be cold concrete garage floor. If I farm it out it will be done much sooner.

Are you replacing the one complete rear frame rail? Something like this on this page? http://web.inetba.com/autoweld/spec.ivnu It is about half way down on the page. A friend of mine is doing my body work on my car. He said that he replaced both frame rails for a mustang in about 39 hours. You will probably find other problem areas, that will need to be replaced. My car was alkaline dipped and then e-coated. Well, when we got it back. We found the trunk floor, dash, and several other sections of the floor need to be replaced. Although, you might consider getting a rotisserie. Replacing the floor pans has been easy, although you see other areas that need attention.

Typically, Classic Industries, Ricks, etc.. deals in sheetmetal from Taiwan. The thickness of the sheet metal is typically at 22 gauge. If you are thinking about replacing the rear frame rails, then I would go thicker than 22 gauge. The Mustang was factory replacement rear frame rails. Depends on what you want for your car. I rather have 11 gauge sheet metal than 22 gauge.

Good point! I thought about going with something heavier from 21st Cenetury, or the link you provided, but I only need to replace one rail. Didn't know if that would cause any problems if by chance the dimension vary between the two.

I would replace them both. Most of the time is spent in setting up the car for replacing the rear rails. What he told me that it is a pain to replace. Art Morrison might have those rails too, I am not sure. Do you have plans to mini tub the car?

I currently do not have plans to mini tub, but who knows what the future holds. I will probably just patch it for now since its not that bas and I can still safely drive the car.
