I am installing a C5 brake kit on my 67 and found a killer deal on a set of corvette calipers...
Since i have to keep my budget in good shape I bought the calipers but of coarse they have "CORVETTE" written on them...

Would it be tacky to leave "corvette" on them since they are going on a Camaro? I am a little worried about grinding the lettering off because I fear that i wont be able to smooth them down to a perfectly smooth surface

if i should smooth it down how can i do it without leaving marks from the grinder / dremel ?

Anything aluminum is pretty easy. Just stop grinding when there is only a litle raised area left and finish it with 36 or 80 grit sandpaper foloved by finer and finer paper until you get your desired result. To try to keep the as cast look is harder. You could just sand them up and get them powdercoated or maybe try that caliper paint I've seen out there. FRANK

Do the finishing work with a 3" air grinder with the spin-off disks. You can work down to a fine grit then using a high heat epoxy you won't see any of the scuff marks.

I wouldn't show off the lettering. So either paint over it or sand it down. It want be that hard to sand it down like mentioned.

Tacky is in! Pimp your ride! Leave the Corvette on the calipers. I like the Corvette on the Calipers.

If I had Viper callipers on my mopar I would leave "Viper". Those kind of calipers are almost a brand of thier own. They would show the general public what you got and at least a hint to the mods you've put into it.

It's up to you--no one seems to have a problem with the LS-6 "CORVETTE" valve covers, no matter what chassis the engine is installed in.

Personally, though, I like the idea of grinding them down and either polishing or painting the calipers and leave people guessing!!

I did this to my C5 calipers but in between the grinding and the sanding I flat filed them. Flat filing is easy and you can get a nice uniform surface. If you use this method, be sure and clean your file often, especially on cast aluminum. Good luck.

use WD40 to keep aluminum from sticking to a file or drill bits or high speed cutters. We do this for machining aluminum on lathes and mills. Works great even on somethign simple like drilling a hole.

I left Corvette on mine, heck I even got the pimped out red "Z06" calipers. I actually get lots of compliments. I'm with USAZR1, I thought updating with corvette parts used to be the way the factory "supported" hot rodding of Chebbies. :enguard:
