If you have parts that are already chrome, you can have a translucent powder over the top. I did some Red and Blue translucent powder over chrome and it looked like anodized. If you parts are not already chrome, you can use chrome powder first then the translucent. This will not look as slick as if it were sprayed over actual chrome, but still resembles anodizing.

ok i meant more like brushed or machined aluminum to a bumper. sorry anodized means color usually. i want them to look like the lip on a machined aluminum wheel or something like that. not really the texture just the color of there finish or like brushed aluminum or stainless steel looks. the bumpers need redone and i dont want them chrome.

I did some sample parts from chrome exhaust heat shields on a Harley. The attached picture is a Red Translucent and Blue Translucent over a piece of chrome heat shield.

I would say you may want to look for a chrome refinisher and go over and look at the samples that he has. This way you cn be sure as to the look that y ou are going for. I think I know what you want since that is the look that I would like for my car overall. Not so bling(Chrome) but more of a purposeful look like it was machined.

I think you can chrome just about anything you can pass an electric charge through. As I understand the process, they dip it in the copper solution, followed by polishing, until it is smooth, then it get's dipped in the nickle solution, then the chromium. If you dip it wnough times, eventually the copper would fill any imperfections.

True about the pot metal although I will say it probably depends on the part that you want to chrome. I also own a '61 t-bird and in the resto my friend who owns a t-bird specific garage told me that he didn;t advise doing it since most pot metals are not good for chroming but I did it anyways and it turned out awesome! As far as the stainless steel. I would leave it as is. I love the way raw stainless looks. Maybe just clear it?
