I am trying to figure out the widest wheels I can run front and rear. It is kinda hard to measure since my car is torn apart and rideheight is not yet set.
I am going with 18's. I have a frame notch in the rear, and tubular UCA's and LCA's in the front.

HOW WIDE?

Kind of depends on the actual ride height. For sure you could go w/some 18x8's up front & 18x9.5's out back (w/a frame notch) w/o having the tires stick out past the fender-lip.

For rubber: 245-40's up front & 275-40's out back. That should help keep the suspension planted.

I'm running 18x8's front b-body spindles and global west arms 4.75" backspace 245/40 (5" would have been better) and 18x10's rear 5" backspace 275/40.....no frame notch yet..slight roll of the lip. when it needs tires again its getting notched and a set of nitto 305/45's (maybe with a little more sidewall flex I might gain some semblance of traction lol)

the 9.5's I had on the front were a set of vette 17's that I used a set of billet spacers to mock up....they are to much for a "driven" car ...i.e. I saw lots of rubbing in the future....I can't remember the exact backspace as its been about 8 years ago I did that...sorry

GBody,

I run a 17X8 TTII 4.75 BS Global west upper arms with
a 245/45/17 BFG KDW's Rears are 17X9.5 TTII with 5.00
BS With 275/40/17 BFG KDW's.Iam running UMI performance
rear lowers and uppers (control arms) rear swaybar,and
the rear fender lips are rolled.I don't think you will have
any issues with 18" or even 19" wheels.I just purchased
this little tool for wheels.Not bad for $99.00 bucks and
will help me in future wheel/size projects and takes allot
of guess work out of wheel/tire sizes..at least i think so.

I'm running 18x8's front b-body spindles and global west arms 4.75" backspace 245/40 (5" would have been better) and 18x10's rear 5" backspace 275/40.....

Do you think a 18*8 with 4.5" BS would work at all in the front? I have a stock setup minus hotchkis lowering springs and belltech spindles(might change back to original)

well here we go.

I have the rear frame notched..as you already know. Im running 17x11 rears with 5.5 bs. There is still some room left over in the back so i could add .5" of bs to put the wheel better under the wheel well.

the fronts are 17x8 with 4" bc...so it is a centered hub.

Camaro SS 17in. ZR1's (17x9 I believe). 275/40/17's all the way around with 2.5in. spacers in the back, 2.25in. in the front. B-body spindle swap and stock drums in back. No rubbing so far.

I don't know if it will be much help, but I'm running 17x8 5"bs in front, 17x8 4" bs rear on my 79 Malibu. The car has Global West front upper control arms with b-body spindles, and Global West Negative roll springs on all four corners (fronts trimmed 3/4 of a coil)which lowered the car around 2" front and 1" rear. 245/45/17 front tires, and 255/45/17 rear tires. I have absolutely no clearance issues front or rear.

hmm...

i have a 17x11 in the rear with 5.5 bs...with a 315/35/17 tire. it doesnt stick out at all..but is really close to the outside lip.

if i get a 10" rim...what bs would push the wheel in a 1/2" and would the 315 still work on that? I want to get the rim/wheel tucked under the car some more.

keep me in the loop on this subject. I had to get 11's b/c they dont make a TT2 in a 10". Would a 315 still fit on a 10? Im thinking about getting that tool that measures the backspacing....I saw it at SEMA....hmmm..maybe my work can buy it...hehehe

Ill let you know how it turns out. I think you could run a 315. I am going to run a 295. The reason is I will have coilovers in the rear so I cant go as wide as I had hoped.

yeah i hear ya. i got my rear frame notched but not "mini tubbed". i want to go as wide as i can but right now they look a lil...umm...mexican? sorry if that offended anyone. the tires are right at the edge of the fender lip...and on the driver side it sits a lil bit out actually..b/c the rear is cocked to the driver side a tad. I want to find 10" rims and maybe a 305 tire? something to make it lok better.

what rear and rear suspension are you running??

QA1 Coilovers, the DK4000 or something. Then just tubular control arms or something with stock geometry for now.

im upgradeing the front brakes on my 81 malibu to the b body spindels and glodel west upper a arms to fit the 12in 1 le rotters on.

Should i just use the b body calipers and master? of course with the wright size lines and valve. Any tips???

Dont use B Body spindles, PLEASE.

Ok, simple question, and hopefully a simple answer.
I am going to run moog springs on my GN and a 2" bell tech drop spindle. I know many people hate the BT spindles, I know, I have heard it all, (bump steer, alignment, quality etc etc) but for now this is a part I have and this is about $, I am on a tight budget. (I am a real eatate agent....need I say more?!)
Now the question, What allowance do you need to make for a 8.5" wide front when running a 2" drop spindle? I know it throws the arc of motion upward since the spindle is mounted higher.....so what amount of additional offset is needed to get clearance again?
This is all assuming I stay at 26" tire height, and 8.5" width wheels...whether its a 245/50-16 or 245/35-20 or somewhere in the middle....it'll be right at 26" tall, and 245 sectional width.

At least a 4.5" to 5" B.S since you wont have any camber gain with those spindles and you still may rub in bump travel. I would go larger than a 16" wheel for sure just to be sure your wheels clear your tie rod ends.as far as lock to lock rubbing I cant say

I could not fit my 9" wide tire because the tie rod end hit the wheel. I got just as much drop from running 9" Circle Track springs with adjuster cups as you will with moogs and drop spindles.

Attached are the photos I took of the TT2 on the rear of the GN. I posted to the turbobuick site last night. I know its tough making a wheel choice. No one wants to buy wheels twice. Hopefully, this will help someone with their purchasing decision.

I'll be running fender flares and doing the wheel centers in black. The straight edge shows where the wheel will land in the fender lip. Although they will need trimming, everything looks good. Keep in mind that mounted behind the wheel is an aluminum brake drum. The tires are not mounted yet.

TT2 17x9.5 w/4.5" bs - will be using 285/40/17 BFG gforce KDW tires on the rear

I am planning 20x8.5 and 20x10... if I did a 4.75 BS I should be close....and I will cut a little if needed. The rear I can do a 10" on a 5" BS cant it?!

I would suggest a frame notch and trimming the quarter lip. That is what I did and I still rub on hard corners and potholes.

REAR:

285/40-18'' on 18x10" CCW "Clasic's" with a 4.75 BS

FRONT:

255/35-18'' on 18x9.5'' CCW "Clasic's" with a 4.75 BS

If I were to do it all over again I would go with a 9'' wheel up front OR Try and squeez a 265 up front. (First I will try out the 265 up front) :)

Really nothing Yet but a few things like ATR tracktion system designed to be like the GNX suspension (Don't work) and the Hotchkis lowering springs, Poly bushings on the front sway bar THAT'S IT! and it handles pretty damn good right now, you wouldn't belive it's stock!
