View Full Version : 17x8.5 ZR-1 Wheels?

Anybody know where I can find some 17x8 or 17x8.5 ZR-1 wheels? I've tried tracking the stupid things down and have had no luck. Apparenlty GM actually made some that went on the '96 Anniversary Ed Corvette and the (some year) Camaro F-1 cars, but of course they discontinued the line last year. I called Scoggin Dickey and they didn't have them, nor could they find a dealership in their database that had them.
I called SLP because they offer a "ZR-1" wheel that's 8.5", but they are "more squared off looking" then the real ZR-1 wheels, and therefore wouldn't match the 17x11's I'm wanting to run in the back.
Wouldn't you know there is... 1... on eBay, and the guy doesn't have the other one... and it's well used. Kaaahhhn!
Any thoughts / ideas?
Am I just going to have to bite the bullet and figure out a way to make the 9.5's work on my 67 camaro, or decide on another wheel?
Thanks!

Another option would be to buy a pair of the 17x9.5's and have someone like Weldcraft (734) 420-2211 narrow them. Cost is around $125/ea.

With any of the stock GM wheels you'd still have to run a spacer or bore out the center hub hole. Or now you could run ATS spindles. The stock bearing cover sticks out too far. FRANK

I don't think they were 8.5 inches wide. The Camaro rims on the F1 were the same as the SS rims, and those are 17x9. I'm pretty sure all of the Corvette rims ar 9.5 inches wide (except for the rears on the GS and ZR-1 of course).

I had wondered if that was possible or not... interesting idea, I'll have to look into that. Anybody ever done that before?

I was actually able to track down the last part number for the wheel with the help of my local GMMP dealer (as mentioned earlier.. it was discontinued last year... so not much help), and it was infact an 8.5" wheel. The guy on eBay I mentioned earlier who had only one (he had it listed as a 96, but 9"), I brought this to his attention... he remeasured, and sure enough, it's an 8.5. There weren't very many of these though... which is probably why I can't seem to find them anymore.
Thanks for the help guys!

Are the 9.5 width wheels too wide for your car?

I actually have a set of orig. GM ones in my garage off a 98 Camaro SS, and the are 17 X 9. I do want to sell them, but I I dont know of anybody else looking for just 2, so I cant really seperate them.

Well... that's what everyone keeps telling me. It's for a 67 camaro, and all the magazines said that Stielow had 9.5's on the front of the "red witch"... but then I sent Charlie an email and apparently the car has the 8.5's on it now. Everyone I've talked to says I'll be cutting the frame etc to get them to work.

Found these on ebay. Not sure of the style ZR1 wheels you want, but to me, these are true ZR1 wheels:

Also I saw in Summit cataolg that there is someone making aftermarket ones, but they are 8" width.

Oooo... hadn't seen that auction. Thanks!
I would actually be fine with 8", but the ones summit has (also the ones that SLP sells) don't actually match the 9.5. They are more squared off on the edges instead of being rounded.
I really appreciate the help guys!

Are you just wanting the fronts (8.5" wide)?

are you looking for Chrome? Silver or the SPARKLE Silver?

Well... for the front. For the back I'm going with the 8.5's. After talking it over, I think I'm going to just buy a set of the 9.5's and have them narrowed, and then get the 11's.
Still haven't made up my mind yet...

OK you confused me now. You are putting 8.5" on the front or back? Then doing what with the 11".
Other auctions on ebay had a set of 4, 2 @ 11" wide & 2 @ 9.5" wide.

Yeah, I just ordered them up this morning as a matter of fact. I'm putting the 11's on the back and the 9.5's on the front (which I'm going to have narrowed to some undetermined demension).
I was talking to Carl C, who is running 9.5's up front on his 67 Camaro, and it sounds like I might be able to squeeze them in there. We'll see. I'm not going to narrow them down until I can mock it up and see how much I need to lose.

You could have tried AFS wheels. They might have had something.

Yeah, that's ultimately who I bought them from, just on eBay. As a side note, if anyone is interested in these wheels (or any from AFS) you should check out eBay. They have them all listed on there for about half the price they list on their website (don't know how that works... must be a volume thing).
