I am back in action on the Monza. I am wanting to flare the fenders wide, alot like the IMSA, but more sleek. Kinda like the Camaro that we all drool over from the magazine cover. I have cruised the threads here, and have gained a little about flaring, but still..... Anyhow, what is the "easy" way to do flares? I do not have a shop, but can weld and do fab work. ANY info on this task will be helpful.
there are several ways to do it.... back in the day alot of people used finberglass, i wouldnt recomend this rought because 5 years down the line it will start to look like crap. I would make the flares 100% out of metal.
you can either pie cut around the wheel opening and shape the flare and ad pieces of metal like this... http://www.bankspower.com/camaro-FrontFenders.cfm.
or you can cut the whole wheel opening out and shape a new lip for the opening. you can also put cuts all around the radius of the wheel well and ad metal. some vehicles can be flared by cutting a slice in the inner wheel well and then a bottle jack can be used to bulg out the wheel opening while metal is added to the space in the wheel well that was created.
its really hard to explain unless you can see it in person. its the kind of job the requiers some good sheet metal fabrication skills to do well. there is no easy way to do it properly. the way its done has alot to do with the look wanted and the car being flared.
