      Fiberglass 69 camaro body.

Has anyone seen the fiberglass69 camaro body being offered by Downs mfg.? I have also heard that they offer it in carbon fiber. What do you think of a 'glass or cabon fiber boby to start a pt. project? I have e-mailed Downs mfg. but no reply as of yet. Let me know what you think!!

Saw it at Columbus in July, it looked good- fit and finish wise. Didn't think about it at the time but the floor is flat and may decrease head room.?

Does this glass body have a frame ? When front sub attached to the glass body, Is it as sturdy as the steel?

It's attached to a Morrison Max-G frame. I just re-designed the C5 IFS to allow the engine to fit in the stock location, to make things easier for everybody FWIW.

Headroom is typically not an issue...maybe if you're 6'6" or taller...

rocketman, those are some great pics! I'm guessing that is the fiberglass body? It looks like it has a great fit and finish to it. I particularly like the dash/interior setup. I also see a C5 front suspension that somebody has put under there.

It's on a Morrison chassis. It should take a stock dash, for those that want it.

Oh yeah that is a glass body.

i talked to the people at downs mfg. you can get a stock dash or the custom one shown in the pics. the fiberglass body is about $15,000 and the coplete body in cabon fiber is about $22,000. they have alot of chassis options as well. from vette suspension to an air ride setup. very nice people to deal with, very helpful too.

I'm assuming the 15k doesn't include the frame though. Also, it sounds like the fiberglass body actually weighs more than a steel body.

A glass body usaully weight less to the same as a steel car,I have never seen a good glass body weight more than a steel car.

Thing about the hours of body work you just lost, most Downs cars dont need a lot of body work.

I think it's the best way to build if starting from scratch. Most of these camaro's that are real cars, they only use the sheetmetal and replace the subframes and rear suspension anyway,so there not much diffenrce, and you almost cant find a good camaro 15g to start a new project with.
