My 69 Camaro currently has 17x8" wheels front and rear and 235-45 front and 255-45 rear tires. I will need to replace them soon, not because of wear but they are getting quite hard and losing grip due to age. 6-7 year old performance tires don't work so well.....

Looking at my options on tires, some of the brands only have 255-40 and not 255-45. I am also considering going to a 245-40 front tire to solve some rubbing I am getting at nearly full lock against the inner fenders, and that .5" shorter tire may help solve that.

So my main question is - anyone running a 255-40 rear tire? That goes to a 25.1" height instead of the 26" I have now. I'm not worried about the gearing change. Any concerns with a 25" tire height on the rear? The car is lowered ~3", so the 26" tire already goes well up into the well.

my current rears are also 26" tall - 255-45-17. I am wondering if going to 25" tall instead has any drawbacks. The car is low enough there will not be any gap in the wheelwells either way. In some ways it seems that a 25" tire is a better match for the fronts, which are also ~25" tall.
