View Full Version : Anyone have clearance measurements for a 4" cowl hood? (69 Camaro)

With a SuperVictor EFI manifold & Edelbrock dominator-flange throttlebody on my 502, hood clearance is going to be an issue on my '69

Larger problem is that no one I've talked to (eg: Goodmark) has any idea how much clearance their hoods have. For paying shipping both ways plus a 15% restocking fee, though, they'll let me figure it out on my own :-(

Anyhoo, I can measure the amount it protudes over a straight line from fender to fender at the front of the throttle body (ie: carb), but I don't have any data from hoods to compare that against.

Anyone out there with a 4" cowl hood on a '69 that would be willing to do some measurements for me?

Here's a photo of the disturbing reality... measured with a straightedge from top of fender to top of fender, I'm 1.75" above the baseline at the top of the throttlebody. If I can find a low-profile carb bonnet that's 2", that will put be 3.75" above the fender baseline. So I guess I'm wondering if -that- will fit under a 4" cowl hood.

I have a Harwood 4" cowl hood on my 67 and it measures (inside the scoop) about 4.5" at the center and 4.25" near the edges. This if from the bottom (underneath) surface of the hood. The 'glass is about 1/8" thick.

Hope that helps.

We use a 4" cowl on my street racer. It has a very tall intake, 1" nitrous plate, and carb. We use a 2" drop mushroom base air cleaner with a 4" thinck elements. barely clears. Based on you pictures, without measureing, our stuff stick up higher then yours.
