Feel free to nominate yourself if you really think you are that bad!

4. The people that made the Steve Erckle car.
5. The person that built the 2007 Camaro.
6. Whoever was responsible for designing the Chevette.
I can't think of the rest, but did anyone list Cooter back in Hazard Co. for the Top ten. He is definately the best of all time. The Dukes gave him alot of work and it got fixed right everytime. What... what do you mean he isn't real? He's a senator now, dumbass. ;)

Pimp my rides crew..I want to see all of those cars they build after 1 year of driving them..not that they have been building them for the sharpest knifes in the drawer
I expect the large car makers should be left out of this but damn, I can't help myself but to mention a dishonorable vote for whomever penned the design for the Pontiac Aztec!
I second the vote for the Yugo.

I'd have to vote for the guys, whoever they may be, that "fix up" cool old muscle cars at any given cruise night. Went to one last night and was reminded of how many could be awesome cars are hacked up. It should be illegal to have a muscle car that has a re-paint, at any point in it's life, that you can see waves in from more than 20'.
When I was in college, a buddy bought a car that had been repainted...... With a brush. No kidding. It was a 76 Nova.

If we get picked for worst builder of the year, do we get an award? If so I'll take it. I'm definitely not the same caliber as Alan Johnson, Chip Foose, Kyle Tucker, Troy T., The Ring Brothers, Jeff Schwartz, Mark Stielow, Steve Strope, etc.

#4..Ol Steve's car be an Isetta..made by BMW..had a one door model that opened from the front maybe 2 little guys could get in it if it would pull them..and a bigger version that sat 2 or more..called 3 wheelers but actually had 2 close wheels on the rear

Hell we were all guilty of that kind of stuff when we were young....Black Mechanic that used to work at a big garage near my house when I was in my teens, looked at me and said..Bobby, you's like a possum..the older you gets, the stupider you gets..When I was 17 I bought a 50 Ford Coupe..had a 312 engine with 2 4's..blew it up...and tore out several transmissions..put a 406 with a single 4 barrl...blew it up...had transmission troubles until I put the big overdrive trans in it..put a 427 with 2X4's..4 speed and 9" rear..finally got it to stay together..I had gone thru 10 or so transmissions, 5 or so rear ends before getting something big enough to live in it. When I put the 9" rear in it, i let it down and the wheel wells were sitting on the tires..I got a string and soft pencil and scribed a semi circle on the fender and proceeded to cut out the fenderwell with a saw..Viola..cut right thru the sidewall of the tire..talk about a D/A...

he got more magazine coverage then than any two cars do today..and that's when many of the magazines had separate owners..I bought Matt and Debbie Hayes 88 T Bird @ Barrett Jackson..Unbelievable amount of fab work but as ugly as a mud fence..pink with graphics down the side..but had twin B&M blowers on a Windsor with handmade fuel injection..paid $15K for it..had to cost $150K in the day to build it. ALL the top cars in that era were UGLY..

Young, dumb, and full of cu*..I think the saying goes. My advice to young guys is find a mentor and listen to him. Young guys get taken advantage of by guys selling parts and doing repairs. Find out who you can trust and don't go to just anyone..90% of the guys out there are idiots. They will screw you and mess your stuff up, and sell you junk..Find someone who has been in the game for a long time and get his advice. We didn't have web sites or anything like this when I was young. This is a marvelous tool..It can keep you out of trouble..Use It..
Not a car builder, but Chris Bangle at BMW has put his stamp of approval on some of the ugliest cars on the road lately.... 7 series, Z4, X3 come to mind.
And of course, Bob Johnson, who built that POS Cuda. :bsjerk:

wasn't Dobbertin's Pontiac twin turbos pressuring a roots blower too..Like you can't blow the heads clean off with either one alone..can't remember if he had nitrous too...should have added the turboniques jet turbine rear end to it too...BTW does anyone remember in the late 60's the turbos and turbine axles by that company...You could take a chevelle and run in the tens with that RR alone..

The triple-blower setup may ahve not been totally necessary, but it still had a major cool factor to it, so I take exception to Dobbertin being a "bad" builder. Besides, it worked.
I agree with previous posts that "Pimp My Ride" builders produced some of the most horrendous and useless garbage out there. If someone had had them pimp my car, I would have never forgiven them. The first (and last) show I saw, the show managed to destroy a perfectly respectable Firebird for some chick by installing a cappuchino machine, disco ball, and painting it a hideous purple.
It took me a while to warm up to "Overhaulin'" because I was afraid it would be a repeat of the "Pimp" travesty!

How about that Unique Whips dude..I can't stand to watch it long enough to see the finished product...he's got somebody snowed..if Howell ever hits the lottery, he'll get him a GRILL with some precious stones, a gold loggin chain and big medallion necklace, some gator shoes, big ol diamond encrusted watch, a pimp stick to help him balance and have the Whips guy bling him up a ride..Howell knows how to be cool, he just doesn't have the cheese to pull it off...

triple blower MIGHT not have been necessary??? had a major COOL factor to it?? It worked??? I see that kind of stuff and I figure the builder has more than one loose screw. It does have a cool factor..to someone that looks forward to watching Orange County Choppers and Pimp my Ride every week..like the dude with 6 or 8 turbos on the Tri 5..or that street rod with the exhaust headers that snaked all over the place..or better yet the purple Ford that just won the $20K at Starbird's show..different strokes is all I can say..

You got a point there. I'm all for function over form anyday. And I'm getting fed up with shows about guys cramming big-rig engines into harleys. Why don't we have a show that's all about practicality, stuff we could really learn from?
How about a coupla teams start with a budget (you pick the number), then they have to build their cars and race them against each other (you pick the course). May the best car (meaning builders) win!! Aftermarket companies, builders, sponsors, and your average (i.e. not RICH) viewer could all benefit immensely!!
What do you think?

I'd ashamed to admit it, but I'd throw myself in the category for the 1st car I built.
My dad bought me a '60 VW Bug ragtop when I was 14 to start building so I could have a car in high school. I still have this car, and over all, its a nice car, EXCEPT the seat mounts. We used 4X4 lumber, bolted together, and through the floor. Don't think I'd drive it that way today!

5.13 GEAR WITH A 3.10 LOW..THAT'S A GRANNY GEAR IF I EVER HEARD OF ONE..I DON'T KNOW HOW TALL THE TIRES WERE BUT WITH ALL THAT GARBAGE ON THE MOTOR YOU'D THINK HE COULD PULL A LOT MORE GEAR THAN THAT. I'LL STICK WITH MY ASSESSMENT..I'LL AGREE HE WAS A GREAT FABRICATOR, BUT AS A BUILDER, HE HAD BEEN IN ONE TOO MANY SMOKE FILLED ROOMS..IF YOU PULLED INTO GOODGUYS COLUMBUS THIS YEAR WITH A SET-UP LIKE THAT, THEY'D LAUGH YOU OFF THE MAP.. THERE IS A HELLUVA DIFFERENCE IN A GREAT FABRICATOR AND A GREAT BUILDER. DON'T CONFUSE THE TWO.

I had a 3 tone pink pro street 69 camaro.full tube chassis,blown 540.Those where the days.
Dobbertin's J2000 was the "trickest"thing in it's day.i would say in his day was good, and ftarted alot of trends back then. There where alot of awesome cars bilt in the pro street day,That now we look at why did they do that, well I am sure in 20 yrs somebody will look back at some the cars built today and go that where they thinking.
There are so many car styles right now that are cool.
Pro street
Pro touring
Old school
Traditional
So on,so on and so on.
All these style's come and go.
Some day somebody will build a car tricker than Bob's Cuda, than Stielow's camaro's.
While the pro touring, pro street cars of today have funtion and driveabitily. It's all just a style

You have some mavericks doing crazy stuff right now but the top dogs are doing things that will be timeless..if you have to revert to blinged up excess to get attention for your car, you're missing the whole boat in my opinion. These cars today are light years ahead of the things that were built back in his day. These cars have style, beauty, function, form, speed, class, everything you could ask for rolled into one. We didn't opt for Mini Cooper headlights, and other wild styling cues. I think the design of the Cuda will be timeless..just like the wheels that are on it.. I'll leave the bling to Pimp my Ride and Unique Whips crowd..You notice, I don't ever see their stuff at a real show..

When you are comparing the "old" Pro-Street style to what is happening now, is like comparing apples to oranges, IMHO. There were all kinds of "Dare to be Different" rides in the 80's and early 90's that were out of the box. Some of them maybe a little further out than some others, but when you look at the clean look of Scott Sullivans '55 and that engine compartment, amazingly clean, yet driven all around the country, now that is cool, I don't care what you say. I think you car Bob, is the next generation of "Dare to be Different", with I believe a ton of wild ideas, whether that be fender/hood bulges, driveline or interior, all tastfully done.
On a side note, I was just flipping through an old HOT ROD, saw Dobbertin's J-2000, still ridiculous today when I look at it, I did not ever believe that was a car, rather a piece of art or piece of sh*t, however you look at it! This car was not driven, if it was, only on and off the trailer, I mean come on, 47" wide rear tires, 8 1/2" of rearend width, no room for suspension, that my friends is a man that is :seizure: ! I know this is getting a little off subject, but hey, I want to bring it up, Pro Show. You guys remember the grand days of Duquoin, Canfield, etc. Did you ever catch a glance of one of those "Pro Show" cars wheeling into the fairgrounds, being pulled by a golf cart, so as not to stir up the dust!!! These were also the cars that featured the "funny car style" roll cage, don't get me wrong, these were "pretty" art pieces, but these were not cars! I can remember being parked near the entrance of the fairgrounds at Duquoin one year, drinking at 9:00 am of course and seeing this dark blue AMC Javelin, full pro street and pro show treatment, funny thing about it, I could not hear it run, because it was being pulled by a golf cart!
Now, on the other hand, I have to give the props to Flowmaster this same year, their golf cart was decked out with a full array of gauges and a mini Flowmaster muffler, sounded great!!!

I don't think I'd have Boyd Coddington build me anything. If I did, I would demand that my build be featured on their American Hotrod show. Then I'd show up every single day and hang out for like 8 hours at a time screaming at all the workers and pissing and moaning to Dwyane constantly. I would never leave and hog the camara every chance I got.

I would never leave and hog the camara every chance I got.
I wouldn't let them guys build me a go-cart.except for twinstings vette,I haven't seen anything of real quailty come from Boyds in years.
They need to build another serious contender,to gain a little creditability back.
And Scotty Gray's cars don't count

I am familiar with the other two cars but what street rod with snaked headers are you talking about?
It was a late 20's or early 30's pick up..headers snaked all over the place..nice piece of work..just way off base to me..3 or 4 years ago..was very popular..

only problem with that, if the Coddington crew bad mouthed the quality of the work and the way the car was going together, how would you ever sell it or get anyone to respect it? That happened to the 42 Woodie that they built for Ron Pratt..he wouldn't even take delivery of it..sold it at Barrett..had to have lost way over 150K on it too..It's sad to see an icon like Boyd was, have all these problems

it was a truck called tubesterYep, I remember it. It had 6 tubes per header. Since it was SBC-powered, it had two tubes on the front exhaust port (1 or 2), two on the middle ports (3-5, 4-6), and two on the back port (7 or 8). That way the tubes were symmetrical or something. A real head-scratcher ...

When I was very young (7 or 8 years old) I use to get a kick out of the George Barris creations. Some of them were pretty imaginable. Practical, no, creative, yes.
I was always hoping one of the Munsters would light up the tires on their, "Family" car.:bananna2:

Now, on the other hand, I have to give the props to Flowmaster this same year, their golf cart was decked out with a full array of gauges and a mini Flowmaster muffler, sounded great!!!
god i miss that show, that was the best party show . i was there with my mullett and my tube chassis , blown big block ,pastell green,no hood ,funny car caged 55 . i miss that car also .

Bob...I was being facetious. I would essentially be doing it to humor myself and selling the car wouldn't be a concern. This is of course all in a perfect world where I would have enough money to pull off such an elaborate prank to amuse myself.

That is quite the abomination! Sadly enough it looks like they did a pretty decent job of putting that thing together, but in the end it just doesn't work! At least it's clean.
