So, I think I want to run a 295/40/17 on the back of the Project Wagon. Question is, what's the best wheel size? 9.5? 10? I defintely don't want that look where the wheel lip is to wide on the tire.

What about a 275/45/17?

Anyone have pics of wheels this size, with a 4.5" or so backspace?

Thanks,

CHad

You have to remember, the contact patch deforms if the wheels are too skinny or wide for a given tire but since you're trying to decide between wheel width well within the tires range you're ok

275's are generally measured on 9.5's and fit 9-11
295s are generally measured on 10's and fit 10-11.5

275's are usually 10.7" to 11" section width on measured rim width
295's are usually 11.5" to 11.9" section width on measured rim width

I'd say go with whatever fits the best :fingersx:

Chad, you may want to check if any of the tire manufacturers even sell the sizes you're considering. 295-40-17, I've only seen in Kumho and Hoosier track tires, and I've never seen 275-45-17.

But there might be something out there that I'm not aware of!!

I believe 275-45-17 is a sport truck size

Not that I've ever seen. 275-40-17 is popular for cars, 275-50-17 and 275-55-17 for trucks. Just tried the Tire Rack and Discount Tire sites, between the two of them, they have access to most brands. Nothing in that size available from those two anyway. But hey, I never claimed to be omnipotent. LOL

I did the same thing last night after I posted. Not much available in those sizes. I guess I should check to see what I can get before I make up my mind, huh? :hammer:

Anyways, the wheel recommendations give me a place start...

I'd try to find a size with a least 10 different tires available. Otherwise you might end up with something obsolete in a couple years.

Ok, there's not much that shows up for a 295/17. So, what size, and kind, of tire are people running in the 275-295 range (17" rim). The only thing I really see on Tirerack.com is 275/40 and 285/40. Any 295 users out there? Next available size looks to be 315.

Just curious,

Chad

Pretty much it. Might have better luck in an 18"

I don't remember the manufacturer but someone has introduced a 295/40/17 tire in the last few months. Is your 66 Deuce wagon tubbed or minitubbed? That's too big a tire for that car in stock form.

I know I'll have to tub it. I figure I'd buy the wheels and tires I like, and make everything else work around it. I do that kind of fabrication (including narrowing rear ends) at work, so it shouldn't be a problem...
