      Bed liner vs. heat

So I'm thinking of covering the bottom of my car with one of the available bed liner products (line-x, speedliner, Rhino?). I'm wondering though, what if any concern should I have regarding proximity to the exhaust system? I'd hate like hell to have the stuff melt, drip onto the exhaust and catch fire.

Are any of the common liner products better for this application than others?

I hadn't seen anything that has happened. I think a lot of people use a bedliner type stuff under their car with success.

Have you checked out lizard skin? I was thinking about using this on my car, I didn't know if you had seen or heard about it yet. I usually find neat new things on this board that I hadnt' thought of before. I think Im going to go that route when I get to that stage of my build. (Hopefully in a month or less!!!)

My impression was that lizard skin was an interior product. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I'm getting the bottom, trunk and wheel wells done in LINE-X by a guy named Skip Tuttle in Antioch. I asked the same question about the heat and he said it was good to about 600 deg. I don't know but i'm going to try. He said he's done about a dozen already and a dodge truck he shot the whole outside too. I looked at some of his work and he does a real nice job. I have his number if interested.

I had actually spoken to Line-X about becoming a dealer and asked this same question. I was told it was good up to 400 degrees.

Anyone have a laser temp gauge? Take a shot just aft of the collector, at the H-pipe and at the mufflers and give us an idea of what kind of heat we are dealing with here.

Looked at Lizardskin.com and the Sound Control product is good to 300F degrees and the Ceramic Insulation product is good to 500F degrees. Haven't read about the Line-X product, but will check it out. What temp does paint buble at?

No, I'll give that a try. Is his direct email listed on their site?

I used a very similiar product to line-x or rhino but its made by Southern polyurathanes and you spray it your self. Did the whole under side of the car and inner structure also. Worked great! As far as heat I can tell that my driver muffler rested on the bottom of the floor for a good 200 miles till I realized it one day on the lift, and fixed it. The liner material only had a slight discolartion to it and nothing major hurt! I'll do it on all my cars from now on!

Yea man, from what i've seen on it you can use it inside and out, and i believe you can actually throw paint on top of it if need be.
Again I was just giving another option, I hadnt' tried it yet. Although I want to!

Talked to a line-x dealer today. He told me the stuff goes on, pretty much molten @ 175 degrees. He felt that it wouldn't be appropriate directly over the exhaust system.
