Paint repair Question

Ok so I am officially a retard, I thought I was doing it right but I guess I wasnt. I had some spots that were damaged on my car during its storage for the last 5 years, mainly large ships to the metal from crap falling on it. here is what i did, i sanded the spots and feathered each layer back, wiped it down with cleaner, airbrushed primer on, wetsanded the spots, airbrushed on the base color, then airbrushed on 2 coats of clear, after each coat i blended the clear into the panels with reducer, I allowed it to dry 24 hours and wetsanded the spots and buffed them out, however instead of them blending in like they should have, there is a ring where the new clear meets the old clear. Now this always work in body school, but for some reason it didnt this time, any help on how to get this blended properly would be greatly appreciated.

I have never been successful doing that. I never went through a body school but all the people I have worked with have never done it that way and always discouraged it.

FWIW, I always fix the chip, blend the color and clear the entire panel.

What color are you attempting to blend?

Darker colors are sometimes impossible to completely wipe the blend edge away. I like to mix my clear 50/50 with blender for the final clear coat and then I spray raw blender over the entire area. Once I started doing both procedures my results improved dramatically. I also use blend instead of reducer and It might be a more aggressive blending agent.

the paint is dupont chroma and the color is black jade peal from a 97 lexus, it is the color i painted my nova, the one in my avatar, almost black. and i would have done full panel had it been somewhere I could have but the main problems were in the quarter panel section, so it would have had to been blended into the roof anyway, so I just attempted to do small spot repair and blend them, some of the spots buffed out fine, others have a real faint ring aound them, not really visible if you look fast, but i think polished up and sitting in the sun it will stick out like a sore thumb

You're probably going to have to use a jamb gun to blend your color over a bigger area, then clear the whole panel. If it's the rear quarter, that's no problem, just pick a body line to break off the clear at, then when you cut and buff the blended clear, it won't be obvious.
