View Full Version : back to the basics brake question
With all the time and $ we spend on our cars, we strive for a comfortable, yet exciting driving experience. Nothing puts a damper on that more than rolling to a stop and having your brakes squeeeek. Anybody have any tips on what to check or do to eliminate this. It only happens when coming to a complete stop from a slow roll (like a stop light). The brake set up is very basic..single piston stock discs up front and drums in the back, hydroboost assist. Brakes are all new with 2-3000 miles on them. The problem did not seem apparent when the brakes were initially installed.

Did you put the anti-squeal goop on the back of the front pads when you put them on?

Honestly, The brakes squeak because they are doing their job. I bet when your pads are heated up a bit they are quiet. If you change to a less agressive pad compound then the noise will likely go away. But then you will trade away "repeat" brake performance when you stop.
Go to Stoptech brakes site. The tech there is outstanding.

My Wilwoods squeak BAD when i first get going. As I build some heat, no problems. But since you say you have a stock style setup (other than Hydroboost), I ask if you did the anti sqeal goop or the liners when they were put together.

I’ve used anti-seize on all metal-to-metal surfaces instead of that stuff when I realized that is what Honda does OE. It ships with their pads.
And yes, I am very careful not to get it on braking surfaces. :)

I'm relatively sure the red goop stuff is actually a vibration absorber, like a colloidal dynamat. I seem to be wrong more than I'm right though.
I will try the "goop" . I did not use that when I put it together thinking that it was a waste of time but maybe not? I used high quality but non metalic pads trying to reduce chances of squeel. Thanks.
