20 pistons worth of 06 Z06 brakes on the way!

My friend get me employee cost..only $1650!!
That includes all 4 calipers (6 piston front, 4 piston rear)
All 4 drilled rotors (14.1 front, 13.5 rear)
      and all 20 brake pads.

I can't believe how cheap all that is, if it was Baers or Brembos, it would be 3K for the fronts alone!

I should have them in a few days, I'll throw up some pics when I get them bolted up.

The only problem with these is that not a lot of wheels fit them. They clear anything 18 or bigger diameter wise, but the face of the caliper hits the spokes of the wheels. The techs at HRE said I should have a few MM of clearance, we'll find out in a few days. I'm running ATX spindles, the bolt pattern for the calipers is supposed to be the same for all C5 and C6 brakes.

How did he get them? I had my cousin at VW try to get me some at the discount price dealers sell to each other but they said you need a vin. Is there anyway to bypass this?

all you need is a part number. I think Yody listed them. He just sold his set up.

Needing a VIN # sounds like crap to me, anyone can order it. Mine had to come out of Michigan, but they're openly available.

I called the local parts department for these brakes and same thing they said I needed the VIN. I was going to get a vin off a corvette listed for sale I wonder if this would work or will I get in trouble.

Dealers use the VIN ploy when parts are scarce to make sure that they're taking care of true owners. It's a policy - not legal issue so I can't see how you can get in real trouble.

Most dealers run vins cause it easier for them to look up parts and get the right parts ordered. Just tell them you don't have the car but just need the parts. Go in at 11:52 am or 4:45pm , you will get better service then.... Try another search cause the part numbers ARE out there. I 'll see what I can find too.

I was wondering how you plan on mounting them in the rear, and what size of master. im still saving up for the fronts and trying to figure a way to mount them in the rear (i have c4 vette irs so im kinda skrewed) and i was hoping to be the first with theese suckers, guess not.

Throw up some pictures when you are ready. I ordered the AFX stuff also. And right now I am thinking about brakes.

GM parts departments use the last 8 digits of the VIN to look up parts. They can tell what every part is on the car from that number - they don't have to ask you for options or anything.

As a result, some of the newer parts guys don't know anything except what the computer tells them. They wouldn't know how to look up a part based on application.

I'm using the master from an 01 Z28, and I'm going to try and use the brake booster from the same next week sometime.

As for the rears, I'll wait until I get the brakes too see. I'll either modify an LS1 rear caliper bracket, modify an 06 Z06 caliper bracket, or make something.

i think they may have wanted a vin to make sure you are getting the correct parts. most dealers have vin decoders in their parts cat. also if a part is on back orders gm dealers have an option to open a SPAC case on the part to help speed up the shipping, and for this they need a vin.....give me part numbers and ill quote you prices....

Now $1650 is that before uncle sam's cut?
Now its very true when it comes to backordered parts to have the vin but not for looking up parts for a Z06 because as far as I can see there is no options for brakes on a Z06 and the GM catalog separates all body styles and the Z06 is all by itself. Even if it wasn't a Z06 corvettes have about the least amount of options of any GM vehicle.

Interesting, please post pictures of these, or post a link if there's a site that has pictures. I just did a quickie-look at www.rockauto.com, but all I could find for the 2006 Z06 was rear pads, and they were pictures of the regular (two per side) pads with measurements.

      EDIT: Nevermind - found it!
      Thanks, Christian (@v8power.net)

I would like to see some GM part numbers posted when you get the parts in your hands.
