Question for painter

My Camaro was painted about a year ago and has been cut twice with 1500. I can still see a very small orange peel effect,as if the paint was still drying.

We used Dupont base coat clear coat over catalyzed primer that was sealed before applying the color and clear. He put a lot of clear on the car,could that be a problem?He is wondering about the sealer not drying.

Any hints you might share with us will be appreciated. Thanks.

A local painter told me there are solvents evaporating from the paint for awhile. I have heard it called dryback , not sure of the technical term. Experienced this with my new hood after the car sat all winter. Buffed once and then noticed the orange peel again. Rebuffed and looks great. Seems like it's holding a shine this time around. I did the dash window frame and jambs on my 72 blazer.
I am no expert so I really messed it up good
Heres the details, I did not wait the proper amount of flash time between coats and I allso laid it on to thick as well as to many coats. what this causes is solvent lockup under the coats.
then I allso did the clear the same way , man you could stick your finglernail in that paint for allmost a year in the sun b4 it actually dried I was able to buff it in about 24 hours and it did shine like glass, It did however finally dry out but it takes FOREVER.

Good painters are hard to find. I do know one that is about 57 and he is VERY ANAL, He Is thinking of going back into paint again and quitting working for the city. He also used to work for a company that was reproducing Gullwing Mercedes< he was the one that made the molds all himself.

Sounds to me like someone didn't take the time to properly color sand and buff the car. I would sand the car with 2000 grit wet/dry paper and use 3m part#05936 extra cut rubbing compound with a meguires w-7000 cutting pad. Then use some 3m foam pad polish with a meguires foam polishing pad. Finish it off with some Meguires Final Inspection. That should make it look like glass when you're done.

If you have already wet sanded the car and the orange peal is light you shouldnt have to wet sand it again. Use a heavy cutting compound and a 3m white wafle pad first. Then clean the white pad and use finesse compound. Then polish it with a black wafle pad. My car did the same thing. It probably have some sovents trapped. my 2cents.

You will experience dryback for a year or two usually. Especially if you pile the clear on. Dryback usually shows sandscratches and featheredged areas and not orange peel. Use something more agressive like 800 on a block followed by 2000. This would be the first time around though. After blocking 1500 twice I wouldn't advise trying it now. I let the clear sit for as long as possible before I sand/rub. Takes alot more effort but I'd rather do it right once that two or three times in the future.
