Anyone have a copy of the latest Hot Rod handy?
In the article about the solstice there is a small photo that shows the exhaust routing and it mentions the brand of muffler they used. My copy is at home, wanted to do a little research on that during my break.
Thanks,
True

The article says the Solstice has tri-Y headers and Burns mufflers. That car sounded awesome on Power Tour - probably the best LS motor exhaust I've heard. It ran 11.7x at 130+ on the tour.

Burns....cool. That explains why I couldnt find anything on google under Barnes.
lol, Imaspaz
Looks like they don't have anything street related. No way those things would pass sound at Laguna Seca.

Bob, I'm curious about your exhaust too. I was not prepared for how good that thing sounded on the Tour.

3.5" Chambered exhaust..Alan built the headers..they are coated OD &ID and Wrapped with DEI Insulation..tunnel gets mildly warm but car is very comfortable..it has Lizard skin sprayed all over the interior metal and under the car in places like the exhaust/driveshaft tunnel..it also has some dyna mat..I used it sparingly because of the weight of it..the lizard skin works well with heat but does not work as well as dynamat for sound insulation..but at .060 thick, you couldn't expect it to..

I'm an old school guy..if it don't sound bad, I'm out...I was extremely pleased with the sound..especially since it's just 11.5 to 1 compression..the Battle Axe was 11.5 too..both hit hard for that ratio..I had to sell my 56 F1 Ford truck..it had the Triton V/10..sounded horrible..I loved to look and the way it drove, but that sound just turned me completely off

Kinda like a viper? The one on the tour was different, but I just could not get used to the exhaust note.

I sat in that little Hot Rod Solstice. Actually I also sat in Mike Jonas' Mallet Solstice too. The Hot Rod Solstice was an experience. It felt like getting a bear hug from a voluptuos porn star.
Oooh!
Fit me just right. Turned to Stielow and said: "I'll take it."

Well- I bought the missus a black/tan Solstice the weekend before Ptour & tried to get her interested in an LS7 swap.
yah- didn't work.
I'd love to do something along the lines of a Mallet conversion, etc; That's a fun little chassis. Only thing is- Guys my size (ala Bill H & Frank) might find it a bit tight. I'm 6'2" at 235lbs & my knee rests against the console. I can see why Steve & Mark S like it- it'd be the perfect size for them.
Of course, SteveO- I'm not saying you're a little man...

I would love to have a Solstice as a DD. The LS7 and LS2 swaps are insane, but big $$$. There will be stage turbo kits coming out pretty soon that will have these cars moving just as fast for much cheaper. I do have to say, though -- I think I like the Saturn Sky Redline better than the Solstice (styling wise).

I think next year's car will have a larger engine option too. One thing about the LS7 swap, you have to change everything, even the location of the rearend for proper driveshaft angle. That is what the engineer told me Saturday while we were waiting in NYC on the tv segment.
Still, That is the sweetest sounding LS motor I have ever heard.
