Has anyone used the wheelrite from Percy's High Performance? I am looking to get a new set of wheels from Budnik and I need the backspacing to be right on the money with the size tire I am wanting to run. I am not real good with just measuring the backspacing with a tape measure so I was thinking about maybe getting this tool

There is no reason to spend a lot of money on a tool you will use one time when the same job can be done with a little research and a 5 dollar tape measure...
Do a search here on measuring backspacing. I know I have listed a number of sites like Alston or Chassis Engineering that provide worksheets to do exactly what you need to do, for free....
Once you've done this a few times it gets real easy and you would never even consider buying a "tool" to do the job...
Just trying to save you some money...
If you can't find anything let me know and I'll repost the sites.

This should help with your project... It is an axle worksheet but it makes you do all of the needed dimensions for figuring backspacing/offset also. Good stuff.

2 pcs of flat stock one drilled to accomodate 2 lug nuts is all you need if you dont trust your tape measure. slot the second pc for a bolt and run it perpendicular for exact measurements.

Thanks everyone for the help I took some angle aluminum and drilled it then bolted it up to the hub the worked out real nice. Looks like I have allot more room than I had thought so now it is time to order my Budnik's
Going to try and get my wheels ordered next week (6 to 8 week build time)

Brent - Myself and a friend went together and bought one. I see you have come up with your sizes, but to answer your question and maybe some others it works pretty well. It has a bunch of measurement possibilites and it pretty simple. The only thing strange is they tell you to lay a piece of wire across your desired tire and attach that to the tool. Seems to me you wouldn't have the right tire until you have come up with the right wheel. A little odd but a nice little tool. If anyone is looking at buying one, I would recommend it.

The site above has an image of a wheel that shows the backspacing measured from the hub mounting surface to the extreme outer edge of the rim. Is this information correct or is it supposed to be measured to the inside lip of the mounting flange?

Backspacing is measured over the "entire" width of the wheel. The diagram is correct. If you lay the wheel face down and lay a straightedge across the back side of the wheel the backspacing is measured from the mounting face to the straightedge.

A lot of people say to buy the tire, then get the rim that the tire man. recommends. Plus most companies will accept a tire return but not as many rim returns. Especially if it is a custom bs.

Percy's is coming out with a plastic verwion of the wheelrite for $89. Still not as cheap as the angle iron method, but possibly easier to work with?
I have two projects to measure for wheels, and I'm thinking of buying this tool.

i have the version from wheel tech and it was worth it's weight in gold. We were able to mount various wheels and turn the wheel back and forth and check clearence on the inner fender. We were also able to move the tire through suspension travel to look for possible conflicts.
It's amazing how many friends you have one you have one of these in your toolbox.
