Oh! I may have to go get that one!
trapin, we must enjoy the same music. Tool has, and always will be, my favorite band. I call them a "thinking man's rock band." I picked the CD up today. Their CD covers are always the coolest. Have you heard the band "10 Years" ? They are similar to Tool, but hold their own.

I'm listening to it right now...Becky went and bought if for me after work today! No wonder I want to marry her, right?
Definetely different, but this is one of very few bands that have gotten better as they have evolved over the years. Being a musician myself (drummer), I am amazed by their talent. No matter how they choose to express that talent, whether it be pure hate and loathing, or periods of soul-bearing beauty, they are speaking to you through their instruments. And they do it effortlessly...on their part as well as yours.
I remember, back in 1992 (right?), listening to my first Tool song. It was an experience, and remains an experience to this day.
No matter what kind of music you currently enjoy, do yourself a favor and buy a Tool album. Any Tool album. And, in the words of Reverend Maynerd himself (paraphrasing), "We want you to close your eyes and find a comfortable place. A place that's not only comfortable, but vulnerable, and we'll meet you on the other side."

sounded like the same old tool to me. the song theyre playing on the radio all the time now sounds just like that "i know the pieces fit" riff. i dunno, thats one band that i find myself searching for another station when they come on. but oddly enough, i really like a perfect circle. i dunno, i guess the Metallica has brainwashed me.

Boyd...that's the perfect description for them. A "thinking mans rock band". This is an album you really have to sit with to appreciate. Not for the 18 and 20 year olds, definitely.
larry just dl it its the coolest thing to do all the cool kids are doing it come on you know you want to
I tried doing just that on Itunes last night. Come to find out there is absolutely NO Tool on Itunes. Not a single song. When I bought the album at Target I noticed they are on the Sony/BMG label...which explains why. Sony/BMG will not allow any of their music on Itunes because Sony is in the MP3 player business and Ipod is a competitor. Those Bastadges. But then I'm glad I had to buy the album because the jacket is really kick ass. I love those goggles and the bizarre pictures that you get to look at. Adam Jones has one twisted (yet creative) mind.

New tool CD kicks major ass, as they usually do.
Best band around, by far. More talent than most.
New CD artwork is crazy, even includes "special" lenses to view.

"If you don't like them you must be dumb". Nice.
They are a just another "sell albums by saying things that might piss off the 17 y/o's parents" type of band. Just like Kiss 30 years ago.

That is what I read.
Tony did not say - in any way, shape, or form - that if you do not like Tool, you are dumb. He simply agreed with a comment I made. If you don't like it, you don't like it. I made the comment about Tool being a "thinking man's rock band" because I am a HUGE music fan and listen to ALL types of music. Stereo equipment takes second place only to car parts at my house. Anyway, Tool is one of the very few bands that combine thought-provoking song writing with instrument play that is on a completely different plane from anyone else. Ask any musician, and they will tell you that the members of Tool are other-wordly in their play. But they aren't so technical that you can't listen to the music. If I had to compare them to other bands, I would have to say Dream Theater meets Megadeth. There is Hard Rock, and there is Hard Rock with Thought. And Tool delivers it in spades.
They are a just another "sell albums by saying things that might piss off the 17 y/o's parents" type of band. Just like Kiss 30 years ago.
And they are not in it to sell albums. In almost 15 years of being together, they have released 4 albums. Kiss released over 20 albums in the same amount of time. Tool is playing in Dallas this weekend to promote their new album. They could easily sell out a 20,000 seat arena if they wanted to. Instead they are playing in an auditorium that seats about 300 people. Kiss? Oh yeah, they played in 30,000+ seat stadiums. Whose more interested in selling albums again?

Actually this tour for the month of May is a "warm up" tour. The 10,000 Days Tour starts in Europe in June then they come back to the states for Fall and Winter to do the big arenas. I'm pissed that I'm missing the warm up date here in Detroit (Fox Theater). I checked on eBay for tickets and they want north of $200.
I can wait.

You are so far from the truth about TOOL. You might be correct on Marylin Manson or some other "shock" bands, but TOOL actually has talent. Not many bands can put out 5 CD's their entire career and have the fanbase that they do.
The generation gaps are showing on this topic...:injured:
IM 26 and have been listening and loving Tool since i was like 20. id never heard them before then but loved them the second I did hear them. Stinkfist was the first song i heard by them and i still love that song.
sorry EFI69 your so very wrong about them. read the lyrics or some background and you'll understand there is a lot of knowledge and thought in their music. Megadeth is the same way with their lyrics. however to the untrained or simply uninterested it could easily be said they are just the type band your refering to. Linkin Park would be a great example of that type of band. worthless lyrics and just trying to pissoff 17y/os and their parents.
so heres a debate for the fans. whose a better drummer Neal Pert or Danny Carey. me i think they are just too different to say oens better. however, they are both two of the best out there. fear Factory's drummer and Dream Theater's are two others that are phenominal i think.

perfect circle is the best all out instrumental band... the reason the call them a perfect circle b/c they are all set up in a circle and their instuments are so in tune with eache other and area on beat just like a metranome thats where the name a perfect circle comes from being 19 i love them ..if you like a perfect circle you have to liek tool...i didnt think some of yall older folks no offense like this type of music great choice.....awesome in concert to....perfect circle mer des nomes is the best cd ever
actually i dont like APC. sorry Tool is better and has the sound i prefer. they are not the same band, so you can like one and not like the other. im not the only one that feels this way.
interesting info importkiller. i figured APC got its name because a perfect circle is impossible to make supposedly. im not some math genius and that's what it would take to make sense of why a perfect circle is impossible.

Tool is one of the bands like Rush that everyone thinks is great but just does not do anything for me.
Megadeth is one of the best thrash bands, along with Metallica and Pantera, who make up 3 of my 5 top faves.
Tool is not a thrash band.
hey its cool. ive got other friends who are huge metal fans but dont like tool. its not for everyone and thats great actually. i dont like one type of music and i think it would be pretty boring for there only to be one type, even if anyone sounded like Tool.
importkiller, Tool has been around since you were a we kid if your only 19 now. APC started in like 99 or 00. Maynard is the lead singer for both bands. APC is a side project away from Tool. interviewers are not allowed to discuss APC when Maynard is doing Tool stuff and vise versa when he is doing APC stuff. and i have no idea about the name. my thoughts were just that. thoughts or somewhat educated guesses.
Yenkostyle

According to an interview I read not to long ago I thought Maynard said APC is really no more... Maynard has also done another "pet" project with Danny Lohner from Nime Inch Nails fame under the name Puscifer for the movie Underworld. So if you are a Tool or APC fan then you might want to check it out.
I am really kinda a music geek and really enjoy Maynards style and philosophy on music.
Anyway that was my "Cliff" moment for the day! So I guess I will just :getout:

I also like Social D, johnny cash, rancid, mark knopfler, motorhead, the distillers,ozzy/rhodes, thin lizzy, queen, vfh, ufo, lucinda williams, etc.
But you know why arguing about music and arguing on the internet are like being in the special olympics, even if you win...

BOOOOO The local stores have been sold out of Tool for 3 days now!!! I'm going to have to make a detour to a different neighbourhood on my way home. BTW Kiss has always admitted they are all about selling records. And they puroposefully make all there songs about Booze, Rock or Wimmin. Theres nothing wrong with that; If you think about it it's an admirable, and honest philosophy. Tool puts a lot of time into making sure their lyrics have something to say. Two different bands, for 2 dirrerent atmospheres.
Julian
Coheed and Cambria are awsome. ive just come across them in the last couple of months and love every single song by them. they are very progressive. very odd too. its not easy to follow the songs because they arent your normal pop songs or the like. all their songs and their three albums tell a single story but they are not releasing the albums in "order" so the story isnt in order. if you like Rush you'll most likely enjoy C&C. the lead singer has a very high pitched voice at times like Geddy.
if anyone wants to sample one of their songs try the crowing, in keeping secrets of silent earth:3, welcome home, or time consumer.

As you look through the glasses, there are pictures you can flip through. You will see that they are the same picture side by side. hold the CD Jacket up close to your face looking through the glasses and adjust your eyes to the photos. The two photos will merge into one and will appear as a 3D image. It's called Stereo Microscopy or something like that.

I couldnt agree more.
Raw talent is ten-fold to actually having your music being played by an extention of 'our media'. What the hell do they know when all they see is pushing something into the main stream to merely make the almighty buck. They prey on the weak and impressionable, fad induced, click based mindset that 'our media' creates. But they cant touch what raw talent can do by itself.
Tool has a following from 5 album's that has never been let down. This album will sell even if it were un-advertised.... just from the fan base knowing that they are going to be blown away, once again.... from the talent that never fades.

you beat me to it. i just picked up my copy. i havent even listened to it yet. hell the CD is still in the sleeve. im still in awe of the CD case. Tool has always put a lot of effort and design into their CD artwork. my friend was right hed buy this album again just for the CD case. this case is better than lateralus and undertow with is translucent pages. im making a copy of this CD or im putting the CD itself in another case. i dont want to damage this case. simply badass.

Yep...it's definitely a collectors item because you know that eventually it will go out of production and be replaced by a different case.
They did that with Alice In Chains album "Jar Of Flies". I have the original. The boxed end that is usually black is clear and they put a few plastic flies in there. That eventually stopped and now the current ones you buy no longer have them.

I got this CD yesterday and must say it is good but what disapoints me about it is if you are in the mood to listen to a group of songs this CD will not cut it. It is a few songs (maybe 4 actual songs) and the rest is Audiotory Art peices.
This CD is very much a mood altering CD but that can be done with pure rock like say Queens Ryche(sp) album Operation Mind crime.
This will be another one in my collection that I will need to be in the mood for not one I can leave in and listen over and over. Glad it was only a $9.99 special at BestBuy

Tool is one of the bands like Rush that everyone thinks is great but just does not do anything for me....
Well, I can say something similar. I can't stand Pearl Jam. It just hurt to type that in. Most annoying noise I've ever heard. Tool on the other hand is incredible. By calling them a thinking man's band is hitting it right on the head. You can't just listen to the lyrics. Every instrument is so important to each song. It's not like many of the bands today. Some bands make the music sound like it's one piece, but not Tool. Listen to the same song over and over, each time listening to a different instrument, and you get a different song. Add the lyrics in and it's incredible.
Importkiller, Maynard is the lead singer for both Tool and APC. That's one of the reasons that Tool took so long to come out with another album. The new album artwork is incredible. I've been lookng at it since I got it. So much so that I haven't even listened to the album yet. I've heard a song off of it, and it sounds good so far. Oh, and it also comes with a warning about the Stereoscopic lenses. It can hurt your eyes when used improperly.
I never really liked tool until I was drug, half against my will, to see A Perfect Cirlcle. Some how, some way I was so impressed that I started liking both.
eMotive is a really great album too, any band that would cover a Fear song has my punk rocker vote.
