I can almost see the finish line. I have been working on the car since about December.

Mostly, I have been waiting on the blower, which was finally released earlier this month.

I think I have a couple more weekends left. I will post dyno numbers when done. The motor is an LS2 with 9:1 forged piston, forged rods, ported heads, and blower cam.

I owe Tony Whatley credit. He helped alot with a parts list from his 69 Camaro.

Dang, you are coming along nicely now! Glad to see the KB showed up, that car is going to be wicked fast.

BTW, my LS2 in the C6 put down 550 rwhp at only 5psi boost. Stock engine except for a 230/230 114 cam, longtubes, and the Magnacharger. That KB should put down even more impressive numbers!

phillip, looks freaking nice man!...

i have a quick question for you...
i have acsess to a bran new LS-6.. "cracked block"...can those just get welded up, and work?, or would it need a new block?..its a small crack, with coolent leaking

Nine Ball

depends on where the crack is. Since the blocks are aluminum, yes they can be welded. If it is an area where there could be high stresses, it might be a better idea to start with a new block.

Did the blower you bought come with an A2W intercooler or is that just for the Corvette set-up? I was leaning toward the Pro-Charger until I saw the Kenne-Bell set-up on LS1tech.com. It looks like less of a packaging nightmare if you ask me.

Beautiful car man, as much as I LOOVE turbos it's nice to see something different. :3gears:

In regards to the cracked LS6, as was stated aluminum blocks can be repaired very easily, but it all depends on the location of the crack. I've seen promod aluminum big blocks that had a rod come through the side be saved, just have to find someone qualified to fix it.

Though I have to say with how common LS6 blocks are it might be cheaper to just buy a good one if you have to have it sent out.

Scogin918: The KB blower does have an air to water intercooler and a heat exchanger in the the front. I ordered the "Hot Rod" kit. It is the same blower minus the hood, intake plumbing, and boost-a-pump.

Stoker420: I used a Unisteer rack and ATS mounts. I did have to cut the oil pan to clean the rack. I removed as little as possible and had it welded locally.

JoeleanLS1: The kit came in boxes. The Fed Ex label showed 90 lbs. That would be for everything.

It's alive!! I started the car last night. It sound pretty good. You can barely hear the blower. Once I get the finder and hood on the car, it will head to MTI. MTI will tweak the computer and dyno the car. I will post dyno numbers.

Congrats! That sucker should make some nice power. Got some smaller pulleys handy -just in case-?

:)

Phillip_L
05-15-2006, 08:34 AM
The blower is suppose to have a 8.5 psi pulley on it. KB does not really have a good idea which pulley I need with a LS2 engine and my other mods. We will use this one as a baseline and go from there.

I am guessing it will make more like 5 psi with this pulley (3.5"). 10 psi is the target. Jayson said I may be able to run a little more.

that engine looks absolutely beautiful. that kb is going on my motor.....even though i just bought it and got it in haha

I put the hood on last night and it does fit. I was getting a little concerned. The KB is definitely taller than the Magnuson. It trimmed up some of the braces on the underside just in case. I really did not want to deal with taking the hood on and off. I used ATS mounts.

I should be going to the dyno tomorrow to get a baseline.

I dynoed yesterday. The car did pretty good, but I need work out a few things:

• The elbow I used on the inlet does collapse a little
• The motor shop sold me the smaller MAF (Replacement on the way)
• The power curve is wavy (Tony W felt it was a fuel problem) (I am going to clean this up an make it a lot simpler)
• I getting some smoke from time to time. It has done from the second I started the car. I will post pictures of the plugs in a separate thread. I going to do a compression check also.

At 7.5 psi, the car made 530hp at there rear wheels. Once I clean up the issues above, I will try a 10 psi pulley. The power is instant. We were doing pulls from 3,000 rpm to 6,500 rpm. The torque number shoot over 500 the second it punches the gas.

anybody know how those hogan blower ready intakes work?

Payton King

appears its going to be lots of fun.

What is the height difference front a stock intake to the top of the KB?

Phillip_L
05-24-2006, 12:03 PM
From the top of the block to the top of the blower is about 9.5 inches.

I have two more pictures, but I am over my quota.

The car is done and I usually drive it on the weekends. I am still working out a few bugs here and there. I waiting for it to get a little cooler before I take it to the track.

What are the final dyno numbers? I was looking into the same setup since I saw somebody with an LS2/KB combo put down 720+ft lbs tq from 2500rpm and above. :worship:

What is your feedback on the KB. I am ready to order a S/C but can't decide between the KB or a Magnacharger.

Build Quality
Install
Drivability
Tech support

Thanks

Phillip_L

My final dyno number is one of the "bugs" I am working on. The car surges on the dyno. We are trying to resolve this problem before raising the boost. The motor/dyno shop feels it is fuel related.

It is currently making 540 hp at the rear wheels at 7 psi. I have 9:1 pistons in the car so there is room to go up on the boost. The torque is unreal. I 500+ rear wheel ft lbs at 2500 rpm.

I just received a boost a pump and a stronger front pulley plate today.

I do not have any experience with the Magnacharge, but every thing has been great with the Kenne Bell. This is actually my first blower car. The install was very strait forward. Instructions were great with pictures. Drivability is good. My only problem is the blower belt wants to "walk" back a rib if I am really beating on the car. The new plate they send is supposed to resolve this issue. Tech support has great.

Did you ever get this issue figured out and the motor re-dynoed with 10psi+?

Dave

No doubt, I'd like to know too.

Phil, I have kept with this thread with anticipation of your outcome. MTi is one of those companies that I've had an eye on potentially, and the KB is up near the top of the 'want' list as well. (especially curious about that smoke issue earlier)

Thanks for the constant updates. Good on ya man! :twothumbs

I did solve the surging problem. Actually, Kenne Bell did. One of the technical guys spotted the problem in a picture. My MAF was too close to the blower. I had it basically attached to the throttle body to keep the system cleaner looking. Apparently, twin screw blowers can produce some feedback. I moved the MAF down by the air filter and the problem was solved.

This number smoothed out, but did not increase. I have not gone crazy on boost pressure yet. Kenne Bell does not feel I should go any higher, but MTI fells I could go up. I am still having a little bit of a belt issue (slipping and walking). I really thing is it from the Street and Performance A/C bracket. This bracket is more show than go. I need to call ATS and look into their accessory setup.

How much boost pressure can I safely run with 9:1 forged pistons and 93 octane pump gas?

I also ran down the track a few times. Nothing too impressive. I had a tire rubbing issue that caused me to really tighten up the rear suspension. I will fix the tire issue and run again next year. The car still ran 11.31 at 124.83 mph.

Here are two pictures. I thought this thread was done, so I pulled the picture to make room for others postings.

DJW32

Phillip,
The car looks great! Are you running a 90mm throttle body? If you are not, be sure to get a 90mm. The 90mm will really wake that motor up. As for boost, you can throw any amount of boost you want at that motor.

Phillip_L
12-18-2006, 11:32 AM
I am running a LS1 Nick Williams 90mm throttle body. As far as boost, I do not know about that. The Kenne Bell is a 2.6 Liter blower that could probably produce up to 18 psi. I do not think the motor will take that on pump gas.

DJW32
12-18-2006, 12:06 PM
Take a look at this
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0606_performance_sports_coupe_comparison/photo_01.html

The Ford GT uses a kenne bell housing with eaton internal parts. I think they spin GT blower to 22 psi. Also, the GT motor has forged internals. They ran these cars on 93 rocket brand gas.

I know this is a 331ci motor vs your 364ci LS2, but this is still on pump gas...for what it is worth
