View Full Version : Do "drag radials" handle well?

My rear tires are about ready to be replaced. I have about 550 HP and tend to break the rears loose pretty easily. I'm thinking about the BFG drag radials to improve straightline traction, but only if I won't be sacrificing too much cornering capabilities. Anybody have experience with those tires they want to share?

The sidewalls on them will be significantly softer than a similar sized KDW (or similar) tire.

I don't road race, but in street driving I have never been able to tell the difference

Johnny's (editor of PHR) Z28 had Nitto DR on the rear and road racing on the front when he tested his car against mine. There was very little SW flexing when he was testing. I have Nitto DR on all corners with little issues. I'd say go for it – Nitto's that is (as that is all I've dealt with).

I have the Toyo Ra-1. They are a road racing tire that I drive on the street. I love them. I think they also come with a taller tread(8/32" vs everyones elses 5-6/32") so they have more rubber to last longer for an R compound. But I bet they are not the best at dragracing, but this ain't pro-street.com.

If you read the goodrich website it said something about them not holding up to sustained side loads.

I have used the BFG's but found they were not very sticky as compared with the Mickey Thompsons Drag Radial that I have on the car now. The car I have them on is about 500hp and it would roast the BFG's but when I switched to the M/T's they spin very little and hook up good!

500hp? Must not be the vette. Twinsting Do you remember me? I you were sitting a few rows ahead of me at the Velvet Revolver concert. I recognized you from American Hotrod and said hello. That baby is done now, right?
