Hey guys -
Asking for your honest feedback again. You definately kept me on the right track with the hood, now how about the rear spoiler ? Do you like the factory "ducktail" or the "69 T/A Wing" I think I would cut the wing down to about half the height in the rendering if I were to go that route.
Thanks a bunch !!

I prefer the wing.
Less ordinary.

wing adds rice. I'd stay original...

corrected below....

I'd go camaro style tail...

Ducktail, I think the wing draws too much attention to itself and away from the "clean" look of the car.

Beautiful car by the way

The Pontiac pedestal style spoiler is the "right" way. What most people don't realize is that the small "Camaro" style wing was never offered on Pontiacs.

Vote for T/A wing.

What he said! I think the 'bird wing even looks cool on a camaro.

The wing looks great on a Camaro but even better on a Firebird. I say go with the wing to give it that even more bold Firebird look. You will also be less likely to hear "Hey is that another Camaro" You can say "No its a Firebird-DUH look at the wing" :)

I guess technically, it's a Trans-Am wing. I said 'bird.

Thanks for the responses so far !!
Looking into who is the best source for the T/A spoiler IF i go that route. Already have the factory ducktail in hand IF that is the choice.

Do you have a pic of the current spoiler? How is it different from a Camaro?

The wing is the way to go. BTW, awesome looking car. Love the hood and front end.

I will say this. Not many Firebirds have spoilers, so either one will be different from most. Here is a T/A style.

I like the T/A wing. What if you lowered it a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch? Either way I say stick with the T/A wing. You rarely see them around.

I like the ducktail, the other "looks" like an afterthought or an aftermarket add-on. Ducktail looks more like it belongs.

I think a shortened t/a wing would look awesome.

Once again guys, thanks for all of your comments and feedback. Since you "are" the PT movement, your feedback means a ton. Thanks.

Roger -
Your GTO spoiler is the style that I like in terms of width versus height.
I do like the T/A wing, but I want to find the shortest version I can. Even with the same height as a GTO, the 67/68 firebird is so narrow that the aspect ratio makes it look very tall, almost a little ricer.

69rs - The picture of that white 69 with the wing, any idea who's car that is. I am mostly interested in where the "shorter" spoiler came from.
Early Ponitacs and National Parts Deport both have ones that fit a 68, the NPD one has 3-3/4" standoffs. Haven't heard back from Early Pontiacs yet. I am trying to locate a shorter one.

Still have the factory one that came off it (looks exactly the same as a 68 Camaro spoiler) too.

No idea. I did a google image search for 1969 Firebird. There were several pictures of that car on a website, but I didn't get the address.

I am a betting man. I say its the same height. You are just looking at it from a different angle.

No, IMO girls/women should never be in car pics, unless of course they are the builder or driver, completely takes away from the beauty of the machine. If I wanted to see women, I would get a mag that showcases their beauty. I guess if a car needs to have a distraction to keep us perfectionists from noticing the minutiae, then so be it.

Roger, your car will be awesome looking with either spoiler, but I would go with the traditional Pontiac spoiler as it is more unique. I cannot recall seeing one lately, I think you will be much happier.

I vote for the T/A wing also. I like the idea of shortening it just a bit also. I'm pretty sure there is only one version out there for the '67-68 and it's made by a small shop somewhere in Canada. You might try contacting these guys for more info: http://www.early-birds.com/ This 67-68 wing needs a lot of work from what I've seen so you might as well get one and start cutting.

How come the guys with the "69s" always get all the hotties?

Personally I'd go for the clean look of no wing at all.

But between the two I'd say the shortened T/A wing. More timeless, and not stuck as a '60s car.

The wing is waaaay better than the ducktail and the cut down version is the better of the two with the wing.

Jagarang

I still like the standard wing.....
I thought I'd like the cut down wing, but after looking at them both I seem to like the standard better.

I think it has to do with the car looking taller in the rear and optically adding rake to the length of the car.

Good point kev.

In looking at it again, I think my pref. was based on the wider gap between the lower edge of the wing and the top of the fender. Get the gaps nice and tight and the tall wing will look better.

Jagarang
04-06-2006, 10:34 AM
The problem with the gaps being toooo tight is that opening and closing the trunk becomes problematic. Frank is currently increasing the gap on Eternity so that we can open and close the trunk without the front corner of the spoiler contacting the fender.

Well, if you and Frank would quit slamming the trunk shut...
Geez, guess you don't know your own strength :smashcomp

It's deceiving how much angle the front corner of the spoiler gains on the quarter when you open and close the trunk.

Franks the brute, I'm the brains!:poke:

i kinda like the cutdown version. just keep the gap small so you don't wreck the paint . and not to offend anyone but i think the tall version looks a little like those handles they put on the back of imports so you can carry them home when they break (lol):screwy:

Another vote for the cut down version of the wing. I think you got the height just right in that 2nd picture.

GTOConno
04-06-2006, 06:18 PM
Although I think the cut down wing looks better, it still kind of squares off the rear, and doesn't seem to flow with the radius of the trunk lid. I think the DT spoiler looks better. Maybe a cut down version of that?? Or nothing at all. Sometimes less is more.

Just my opinion.

I think the wing on the 69 Firebird pictured above is nomral height. I think it looks shorter due to how the shot was taken.

My opinion anyway.

I'm like you, I have no idea which to go with on my 69 Bird. The TA spoiler is more correct but the camaro ductail works so well with the body. Plus it makes the ass look better IMHO.
