A little while ago I was seeking your guys' advice on how to stiffen up the suspension on my 71 el camino, which was having horrible front-to-back boat-like oscillation. Cutting to the chase, you guys told me I needed some new shocks. Since I thought the front was the problem, I thew on some edelbrock performer IASs on the front only, and threw in a suspension techniques 1 1/4" sway bar as well.
This has improved the ride and handling tremendously. I can actually mash on the freeway topped out and not fear every minor change now. :twothumbs Performance on the bumpy potholed streets I frequent is also much better. A little on the stiff side, but way better than the boat it once was.
There is a question in this: the old (but still brand new) kyb gas-ajusts are still on the rear. Because I have cargo coils which makes the rear sit about 1 1/2" higher than stock, I had to go with a part number which is for a 78' (or that gen) el camino, because my shop told me that if they installed the p/n for my 71', they would have to stretch them out to install them and they would wear out prematurely. Is this true?
Because I am loving the edelbrocks on the front so much, I might want a pair on the rear as well, but I don't want to bother with fruitless part number searching or install something that fits but doesn't actually perform as it should, thanks for reading this essay.
